So far it reminds me more of 'the lord of the rings'

waits for the spoons solo extravaganza!

Well, it did get better

Reminded me more of "Songs of praise" on a Sunday..........Beijing had fireworks lighting up the night sky while a thousand banners were waving.........we had a bloke in a funny hat and suit singing:roflmao:

We are the only country with the imagination to have our octogenarian head of state parachute out of a helicopter with James Bond and then get Mr Bean to play piano and spoof Chatiots of Fire.  Bejing was a soulless PR event by comparison.

Whatever's gone wrong it's not my fault.

I'm a big cynic, but this opening is the best ever.
Danny boyle has excelled!
Like Smilo said...imagination

watched it in an empty living room on a 14 inch crt tv....still awesome, best bits bond and her maj and mr bean...brilliant

I came into this world with nothing,
through careful management I\'ve got most of it left.

The lighting of the torch the final bit where it came together looked stunning.  Bravo I say

The torch was something else.

I thought it was excellent if a bit.... Eccentric by most standards, but thoroughly original and a memorable opening. Sir Danny Boyle does have a certain ring to it...  Kind of worrying that I recognised pretty much every track they played in their Music display/montage bit
it\'s not my fault if every one runs into my sights :D:byebye::roflmao:

All in all I thought it was pretty good, lighting was very good in and around the stadium and most of the acts, music was also pretty good (apart from rascal, but that's just my taste in music), some good funny bits (bond, bean), but didn't like the very start where they had a 10(?) year singing a solo, don't get me wrong, did a great job, but heck of a lot of pressure focused on a young kid! Some of the video sequences in between were pretty substandard also, fell asleep waiting for all the teams to come out (got to 'P' IIRC) but recorded the rest.

So did you mutter the words "is it? no it isn't....... **** me it is the Queen"

The Tim Berners-Lee invented the world wide web bit was a high point for me, the British contribution that has changed the entire world in one go. The ageing Paul McCartney struggling to hit the high notes bit was when I left the room.

Inspiring non the less.

(and not the embarrassing failure we expected)

The 'Abide with Me' section was very strange. For me it was just too downbeat - almost a dirge! Which was a shame because the event had flowed and built really well up to that point. Loved the forging of the rings although it seemed an enormous leap from the industrial revolution to the cyclists wearing bright coloured Beatles outfits.

All in all it was very 'British' which is how it should be.

The arctic monkeys were awesome and I think the rest of it wasn't bad either.

i was watching it on a big screen in my local park, all i can say is wow, loved the smoke stacks going up and the making of the steel rings, and the finale of the petals making the caldron was great.

I actually thought that they were a disappointment. Rowan Atkinson proved that he can play better than them with an Umbrella =P.
