Intriguing qualifying. Going to make for an interesting race. Gary's comment that people starting on hards would probably only want softs for 3 or 4 laps right at the end, seriously that few?

TeaLeaf

With the drop off they saw on soft in free practice it could well be that few.  My guess is maximum 6 laps at the start on heavy fuel and up to 10 by the end of the race on low fuel and when the circuit has rubbered in.

It will make the race interesting though with the mix of strategies!

I don't think they could have made the tyres more exciting if they tried. I'm sure they'll get a lot of praise for making this one as interesting as it was with opposing strategies.

looks like some people disagree on the tires being exciting - Mainly redbull whining when they don't win, but scarily sounds like someone persuaded pirelli to change things - Good job the rules prevent them using last year's tires like they proposed!

Interesting article in intelligent life (spinoff from the economist) on algorithms and how important they are in arenas like f1 if anyone subscribes

Watched the first practice from Monaco (4:00 AM my time) I've always loved this track, but, having to get up so early is getting harder every year. Luis looks fast (well for 1 or 2 laps) I doubt the Mercs can go the distance. Hope to see Alanso in the points again this weekend.

Top moment, Grosjean hitting the barrier at Sainte Devote!

Scariest moments: high speed through Tabac and into Swimming Pool.   Definitely not for the feint-hearted!

About 10 minutes to Qual , track is wet and the rain is intermittent. This should be interesting.

*Spoiler Warning* (kind of)

RB have spotted cuts on the tires from Sebs car, so could be the curbs/drains but surely should not 'explode' like that?

doubt it's debris

I know Bernie wants to make F1 more 'exciting', but randomly exploding tyres seems to be a touch extreme.

Gutted for Hamilton, Vettel must be fairly hacked off too...

Great race, worrying tyre situation although it might be much more down to the curb profiling (see BBC webpage with video) than the actual tyres themselves.

Brill drive from Webber.
Brill drive from Hamilton (drive of the day)

Entertaining race, not necessarily for the usual reasons but plenty going on, many overtakes and nobody hurt.   All's well that ends well as the Championship fight looks more open now.

I wonder how long that curb's been in that condition for. It doesn't look great, but the Pyrelli tyres really should be tougher...

Really enjoyed watching Hamilton charge up the field, great stuff.
