I am after a new monitor but cant decide on a 19" or 21". now i dont really need a 21" but if i am going to get one it is going to last me another 5-6 years.
LLyama ones seem to be the best at the moment. does anybody have any views on wats good and not? i would appreciate it as going from a 17" to either a 19 or 21" is going to be costly.
19" about £300
21" about £500

Help me decide on 19 or 21" aswell please

Cheers Smite

i got a 21" screen and i think its better with games cos everything is so big! and it makes it fill more real cos there is so much going on... (if you see what i mean)

Might as well go for a 21" i say  :D... if you got £500 you wana spend

If you can have a big one, get a big one. Big one's are best. Samsung Syncmasters are good.

I have a Nokia 446 Pro 19" and it is my best buy ever. I have a sony 19" trinitron at work that is really good.
I suggest you to buy a 19" and buy the more expensive model, it is better than buying a cheaper 21".

Here is a review of some CRTs

And by the way it is iiyama ... LLAMA :)

If you go big make sure you've got a really deep desk or your keyboard will be on your lap.

I have just converted the smallest room in my NEW house into my office with wood floor and wall to wall desk (that isnt hard seeing as the room is about 2 M²) from IKEA with a nice rounded corner section but it is quite deep to the corner and i am used to the monitor being closer (dont say move the monitor closer)
Keep the debate going the more people i find with 19 - 21" who can give their oppinions the better.

lliama r very good monitors, i personally would go 4 the 19" as 21" is far to big to cart around to lans, im still using my first ever monitor, and its 15" so i really need a new 1 as well but i cant afford it.

In which case why not think about going flat panel?  LCDs are pretty good these days (so speaks a satisifed user of an 18.1" LCD monitor   )

Thought about that but i wasnt impressed with the refresh rate fo yours.
It did look very good but not when the action heated up

Best get one to match the size of your Dick - i.e 2 inches , i think pocket monitors come that size.

Afterall your going to have to get it in the back of your toyota, carry it across the car park and into the Lan venue - only you know what a weedy tart you are

I think 21" is too big for games..... you just cant concentrate on the WHOLE screen.... some feker can creap up from the right while your looking to the left of the screen....

I play on a 19" mon at work and thats about right.

BTW my home monitor is dead.... TANGO.  My other monitor is too dark on the games pc... why?  I thought a monitor was a monitor... its ok on my other pc.

I've been using a 21" Iiyama monitor for about 4 years. I wouldn't have anything else..

Also, you're right about LCD's refreash rates being crap. I wouldn't touch them for gaming. Besides the good ones are huge donnaros and even then you're not going to get the quality you have with a decent CRT.

I would happily purchase another Iiyama if and when this one craps out but it's still going strong. Also, I worked for an ad/design agency not too long ago and they swore by those monitors (funny how these things can be so big yet go missing during an office move??  8)  )

Dr Sadako

I know that ppl in the newsaper industry (yes I know they have MAC) use Radius CRT monitors. They are supposed to have great colour balance. I don't know if they work on PCs though.
