I want in and am tossing up between a 300i and a Freelancer but it would be nice to have idea of the different speed the ships will go.

I think you need to look at the Thrust Ratings (TR1 to TR10).

"Main thrusters are usually the most powerful ones on a ship. They are the ship's main means of propulsion. The ship's maximum velocity, range, and radar signature is directly affected by its main thrusters."

300i is TR4 (http://starcitizen.wikia.com/wiki/300i)

Freelancer is TR5 x2 (http://starcitizen.wikia.com/wiki/Freelancer)

Not sure if that answers your question, other factors might apply.

I came into this world with nothing,

Thanks, that helped.

I guess it's the Freelancer for me then. Besides, I have to copy Oldie as I have no independent thought :)

I want in and am tossing up between a 300i and a Freelancer but it would be nice to have idea of the different speed the ships will go.

Chris Roberts has said that he is keen to make the game as realistic as possible and as such the ships will have a complex physics system. The thruster levels give a good idea about the amount of power available but what's as important is the size of the ship the thruster is attached to. A battleship is going to have some serious horsepower but will probably move slowly compared to a fighter.

He's also mentioned that available power will be a factor as well. Each ship will have a certain amount of power that it can draw on. So the more power that a pilot sends to their engines the less there will be available for shields or guns etc. So two ships of similar size with the same power plant might travel at different speeds if one has equipped some heavy duty shields and the other hasn't. Ships will be very customizable, so what appears to be a fast5 fighter might in fact be slow but bomb proof and a more sluggish looking cargo ship might in fact fly like the wind.

That being said Chris Roberts has stated that the 300i series will be serious speed machines and the 350 probably one of the fastest ships in the game. The Freelancers are described more like HGV's. So they will be slower, less maneuverable but have more shields and gun points and a lot more cargo space.

I think we'd be best with a cross section of ships, so it's good that we're picking a range of ships rather than all flying the same thing. And of course there are still plenty of ships yet to be released and we should be able to buy them before game launch as well. How we end up agreeing on buying (in game) and flying the really bigger ships like the huge Bengal I'm not sure. There's still a long way to go before we need to worry about that. :)

Quote from: Whitey;379312I'm in. I went with the Avenger in the end due to the extra cargo capacity and longer insurance package over the 325a.
