Quote from: Neys;392132Thanks Seany for changing the lap count.

I'm 99% sure that there is some weirdness going on with this combo. The combo feels totally different in multiplayer (I'm appr. 0.5s quicker there) than in singleplayer (hotlap mode). Track quality is set to optimum in both scenarios. Setup is also the same.

When I drive in MP I hear significantly less tyre squeaking than in SP and the car limits are totally different.

Anyone else observing this?

Yep, tested this just now for a half hour to compare and Tires do make more noise in SP and you have far more grip. My off-line time is a 55.990.  It's very noticeable at turn 3-4 and the last corner.

This is something I had been paranoid about before though on other combos and I thought I was just imagining it.   That cars felt harder online compared to when I tried them offline.

What could the problem be?  I have no clue right now, other than maybe an Assetto bug?  Could it be something in our .cfg that is not set correctly?

----edit----

Maybe we could enable Dynamic grip and set it like this?

Looks like we're not alone... someone else just posted a similar issue in AC forums:

Well. I thought I just try bit harder online. It is hard to make mathematically conclusive results. There are too many variables to make it easy. First we would need lot more laps and for example I haven't driven the track so much that I would have reached my ultimate top lap. So my times might still be improving and also my consistency is not very good.

Maybe the game is so crappy coding that it is "busy looping" all the time (that would explain the heavy fan noise) and because in MP it needs some power to handle the MP issues it cannot use so much power to player.

Interesting.  I think the 458 s3 is a very good car to test this as is very precise, you can tell very quickly when the grip is different.   It would be curious to see if the same thing happens on Vallelunga club or Nurburging sprint (official tracks and short laptime).  I may change to this combo for a short while to test.  I'm also going to test what its like with Dynamic grip enabled but essentially turned off ( 100% grip)

I think we should include this [DYNAMIC_TRACK] section in the .ini file (is it somewhere specified what happens when you omit the section?). I did some comparisons today (locally on my machine), and I couldn't reproduce the issue there ...

Maybe Aquilifer is right and it is a ghost issue related to missing combo experience.

Seany

Some test I did:

I added that Dynamic track bit and it did nothing.  I think if you don't want to use it you just omit that section.  That's how the Acserverlaucher.exe creates it anyway, it just leaves that section out if you select "False" for Dynamic track.

I turned Tire wear to 0, that did nothing either.

I switched the server to nurburgring sprint and I couldn't tell a difference between off-line and online here.  The Tire noise seemed the exact same between the two, the track grip is a bit harder to tell when you have not done many laps but it didn't seem overly different.

There is 100% some thing odd about Barbagallo (all custom track maybe?).  I noticed that when you join the server first and leave the pits you can hear the tire squeal to pretty much the same amount as offline, the handling/grip also feels about right, but it disappears after about half a lap.  Then when you go back to pits and leave again the grip and tire squeal stay missing.  However, if you leave the game then come back, the tires grip and sound ok again for about 1/2 a lap.   It feels like your tyres are wearing out really quickly (that's why I tested TYRE_WEAR_RATE=0).

Try this too: Join, leave the pits and crawl around.  Now start going for a lap as you come into the last turn, I found the car handles like single player, again until the grip/squealing disappears.

I'll put the server back to Barbagallo now, but Neys; feel free to do what you like to the server ( change combo, .cfg etc etc) to do some testing.  The more testing we can do the better.

I'm going to test again tonight. Just a side note: You can also host a server on your local computer. You have to set REGISTER_TO_LOBBY=0 for that and then you can click on the LAN button in the MP lobby to connect to your local server. This is quite handy for testing...

Neys

I start to believe that this is an audio only issue. It is just the tyre squealing sounds which are attenuated so that you barely hear them. This gave me the impression to have a higher grip level, but I can't reproduce this anymore. Interestingly, it seems to be related to the number of cars configured on the server. The sound works perfectly for my normal test server with only 3 cars. I have reported this here: http://www.assettocorsa.net/forum/index.php?threads/tyre-sound-disappearing-during-session.17940/

Seany

Didn't you find that there was more grip for a 1/2 lap with barbagallo online?  It's almost like the reverse of normal where you would expect that the tyres have to get up to temp, but they seem to be loosing grip instead of gaining. I can feel a huge difference on Barbagallo on turn 3 thru 4 and the last turn, I can brake and turn in way later on the last turn when offline.  Maybe I have some setting wrong off-line that is giving me more grip, but I don't think so, I have checked several times.

Aquilifer

I've done some 10-20 lap sessions on and offline. I admit that there is some odd lack of tyre squealing problem online. I'm not so sure of all the other. I rather refer only to measurable data and more or less my best times on and offline are on average the same (56.4-56.8). The lack of grip could be just "between my ears" because of the sound problem. The best lap is usually between lap 5-10

Car choice By Deetz this week.  Hard to pick a track for this, I picked Brands.  There is no getting around it, this is going to be hard  , no matter what track.  It's a great car though, I'm up for the challenge :)

If you guys decide Brands is not best suited, we can change the track.

Aquilifer

Another historic legend. Great car and track :)

Just remember to use H shifter and no ABS or TC. Otherwise it's not Miura

P.S. Did you know Lamborghini made tractors before cars. It feels bit like one before you get used to it

Neys

An authentic Deetz combo - still remembering the dancing cobra at goodwood :) Great choice!

Aquilifer

I need to hype bit of the car. Oh boy it sounds great! Like if it was spitting half of the fuel straight into the exhaust pipe! :woot2:

Deetz

:D Aquilifer, I love that description, and I'm starting like the combo. (The left hander at the bottom of the hill after Druids (Graham Hill?), was doing my head in.)

I guess you just have to accept the lack of grip, not that there us much to tweak, but I've modified my setup as much as my limited ability allows, just to minimise the rearward weight transfer that snaps the back end round.
It's not really much quicker, just allows me to be (much) more consistent.

I hope this combo should allow some good racing.

See you all Monday.
