Quote from: Aquilifer;394451Just a note. If there will be a long race I might run out of fuel. So far haven't figured out how the pit stop works :dummy: If I stop in a race it is not doing anything. The dude is just keeping the lollipop upwards.

Pit stops only work in multiplayer races. You see a white 3D Box at 'your' box, stop inside the box, and you will be presented with a menu of what you want to change (you got fuel, tyres, and different damage repair options). If you find some time, try it out; the dialog is, well, not the most intuitive interface to cope with under time pressure.

Aquilifer

Ah. That explains why I couldn't make it work offline. Tested and it works now. Thanks

This was fun tonight - close long race (until last lap :))

Pity that we've lost Gooner and Yeman and Axel Linter :(

Combo choice by Aquilifer this week.   Should be good, nice fast track, watch out for the jump  .

Aquilifer

The qualifying is set to 6 mins. That is too short even for one fast lap. I takes maybe 3:40 to make the pit out lap and then you have no time to finish the next one. Min 8 mins for one fast lap and for 12 mins you have time to make 2 fast laps

Seany

Yeah, well this is kind of a prob.  We where talking on Monday and came to the conclusion that the gap between races is too long. Obvious solution is get rid of qualy....But, if we don't want the same grid every race we have to have some kind of qualifying.  Also I feel there is not enough of a gap between races with Assetto, if you just have; race, race, race, race etc.  It is nice to have a few minutes between races, like we do on LFS.  Another reason for a gap between races is a bit of time to test setup and learn the track and car (every week it's totally new, not like LFS where we all the know the tracks and cars to death).   It's also nice to have a bit of time to chat on TS between races, I think.

So it's hard to know what to do.

I think the best way is to think of qualifying as a practise for a 6 minutes or so (this combo is a bit unique as the lap is quite long, most combos are about 2 mins, and a short 5 or 6 min qaul would be good here).  Even with one lap from the pits your time will be registered, I think.

Any suggestions are welcome!  I am also not sure whether this combo should be 3 - 4 laps.

Aquilifer

Yes. The best would be like in LFS that a new qual could be voted and otherwise the race start order was from the prev race. I guess that is not possible in AC at the moment

I think it registers the pit out lap (at least it shows the time), but it is hardly fair because the pit box place would have effect on the lap time (I think). If the qual was 8 mins it would be good for one true fast lap here if you get out when the qual session starts. What comes to the race order I was thinking of 4 laps too, but does that increase the risk of car wrecking too much (the track can be tricky)?

I'd vote for 8 mins qualy and 3 laps. When an admin is there, it is possible to skip qualifying; did that today, and it was quite ok (though the grid never changes, grrr).

Still not sure what would happen, when we have no qualy at all. I initially thought that AC needs a qualy to place grid positions, but yesterday deetz won the pole by doing a practice lap before the long race :D ... So maybe skipping qualy would also work...

EDIT: I like this combo.... Thank god the trees are no real obstacles

Seany

Yeah, we will have to experiment a bit.

For now it is set to 8 mins Qual and 3 laps.  We'll see how that goes.

I agree combo is great, nice feeling of speed :racing:

Combo choice by Aquilifer this week.   Should be good, nice fast track, watch out for the jump  .

Short facts for Wednesday Event:

Qualify: 15 Minutes
Sprint Race: 3 Laps
Long Race: 13 Laps, Fuel Rate: 4.0x

I decided to set this combo without a password; this means that users are able to join during sprint race, long race is pre-booked, so there will be no problem in there.

Regarding the start time, I tend to be a bit relaxed; we start when enough people are there on the server.

The Lotus 49 has a monster tank of 181 Liters. I tried to fill it up and (not surprisingly) it is a huge difference in handling (the braking is much different) and also in lap times. The 4.0x fuel rate results in a fuel requirement of about 235-250 liters. It might be better to split that into two halfs than to fill it up in the first stint.

One more business trip in the way of the long race :(
I tried the combo, and this was mighty fun! Good race all

Tonight was one of the best wednesdays so far. It was nice that there was something like a critical mass for the long race. Thanks for showing up :racing:!

I think I haven't sent the link to the championship yet: http://77.108.135.2:42223/championship
