Checkout the 'gregpeg' topic in the 'Rogues' section then decide if we should adopt a minimum age policy for the community. If you are in favour then please state what your preferred age limit would be.

Unfortunatly maturity and age dosnt allways go side by side but I suppose it wouldnt hurt to set an age limit somewhere in the teens.

18, but how do you enforce it? That's not to say there are no mature 16 year olds or some childish 62 year olds

If you are going to vote no please give a reason why.

Age limits are utterly pointless as they are unenforcable. It would be easy to simply say on an application that a person was whatever ages was required and we'd be none the wiser.

It's also wrong to assume that everyone under a certain age is poor dmw material. Some people are idiots and some are not.  Age has nothing to do with it. Set a standard of behavior by all means. And if someone falls below that standard then boot them out, whether they be 16 or 86. But don't deny someone access to the dMw community simply because they are one day the wrong side of some arbitary date.

If I suggested that people over a certain age should be kicked out or barred entry because I assume most people above a certain age are too deaf to hear the commands, to doddery to understand them and to rheumy to make their fingers work on the keyboards, then at best I should be ignored and at worst booted out the clan.

Likewise its fundamentally wrong to suggest that all people under a certain age are too ignorant, unruley or childish to be included. I know some twelve year olds that are better behaved than some of our existing adult community members.

If we have issues with certain members then they should be addressed on an individual basis and not covered by an unfair blanket catchall rule.

Age limits are wrong and it will be a mistake to introduce them.

Rant Over. Thankyou and goodnight  :)

Whatever's gone wrong it's not my fault.

I guess the servers are similar to our forums in that they are monitored, controlled and generally kept clean of the undesirable elements and language. However, we cannot guarantee that people will not use "say" commands with vulgar and foul language or will not start being rude and abusive on comms - the same thing happens in the forums sometimes but the admins bin it, unfortunately, we cannot make somebody "unhear" what has been said on voice comms.

Consequently we should probably have some form of public health warning/disclaimer if for no other reason than to protect the TCS environment. I reckon Sadako's "PG13" is a pretty good starting point.

i like the mix of young and old tbh ...but when i say young i would like a low set as i dont want to spend my evenings helping to run a cresh

Im of the 16 minimum ...but i think we should be flexible on it....and if a young player can impress his maturity on me / admins then i have no problem with an exeption

The important thing about age is not maturity or lack of it, its accountability, if we allow 13 year olds onto the forums or the servers there may be things that their parents can get us in trouble for. Even one swear word. smart gimp comment or any other contraversial conversation on the forums could close us down. Things that they say could influence a child. Take pc modding, would you like a 13 year old to read the Hardware foums and take apart their pc and get hurt themselves, and "Little Timmy, who told you how to do this then, it was dMw mum, I read their internet site and they told me".

I think 16 should be the age you need to be to play on Meat Hook, that way the person by law has made their own decision. Any lower and all it would take is a determined parent with a chip on their shoulders to close us down.  :(

Comments on this opinion? I think it's serious. Sorry Smilo, although your comments on maturity are spot on, in terms of responsibility, no age policy could be disasterous.
Cheers, Bert

Ahh Albert the Wise.

I knew there was a reason that some forums ask if you're over 13 when you sign up. (I think it's the vBulletin boards that do this)

That is a very valid point he makes and it does make sence. Especially in this day. All it'd take is one Nazi to take offence and all that we have worked to build up will be ruined.

Unfortunatly I null voted as I didn't want to get involved as age and maturity does not always go hand in hand (as Smilo so eloquently put it) but I didn't take into account the legal aspect.

Bah, who opened this can of worms anyway?  <_<

I suppose the next poll should be "What should the minimum age be to play on the TCS servers?"
