Org-owned ships - do you want them?

This line struck me as something I'd love to know more about.   Many people are talking about ships owned by an org not by an individual, but how do you do this?    DMW would love to have org-owned ships, but we don't know how.   Does anyone know anything about his or is it still in the realms of the hypothetical and in reality the ship is currently owned by one person who hopes for future org functionality?

I think for me, the distinction is that an individual decides what to do with their own private ships.  They should keep an eye on the needs of the org, but it's still their own property.  An org one is run by whoever's in charge of the org and is always dedicated to org goals.

I remember CR saying there will be facilities for the Org to have its own assets.  Beyond that, I have no information!  When people buy org ships at the moment, I think it's just a case of a highly trusted admin starting a paypal account that everyone pays into.  Then the admin buys it and promises to donate it to the org as soon as it's allowed.  If it's never allowed, they treat it as an org resource in game anyway.  That's how I'd do it.

I remember the CR comment too.

Would members be interested in contributing £/$/â,¬ to a dedicated DMW Fleet ship (ie owned by one player until such time as RSI enable mechanics for the org to hold the asset)?

I'd pop in a few quid, depending on the ship.  You can't get an Idris anymore, unless they do the sensible thing and put it up for sale again.  I can't think of any others that would make sense when we have so many already available to us.  I'd not touch the black market for the Idris, it's totally extortionate.

Gratuitous 890 Jump, anyone?

P.S. New thread for this?

I think most people would vote on a ship-by-ship basis.  i.e. you may get different results based on buying a Reclaimer over an 890 Jump or something.

Personally, it will depend on the ship and how much we'd need to contribute to buy it.  I wouldn't want to donate money only to find out we don't have enough to buy anything cool.

Perhaps it could be a long-term thing.  i.e. we chip in occasionally and we buy ships as and when we have enough?

Otherwise, it's probably better to earn them together in game as an org goal.

TeaLeaf

Yep, that's why I opted for the middle answer myself.  I'd be interested, but I'd want more info before doing anything.

At the moment I don't see anything (in terms of fleet 'balance') we need to centrally fund. Sure, the Org will benefit from a couple of Orions to help with revenue but I am definitely going to get one of those and hopefully someone else will jump on one too.

Personally, I think we can afford to wait 'till the in-game mechanics enables Org-owned assets.

Haven't voted yet. I have no problems with donating to a central fund . The way I see my personal assets at present are as an extension of organisation assets anyway. It's just that these ones that I have ownership /command of. I guess the description would be accurate if compared to a navy ship.

I guess for me this is because of what I want out of the game though. The team experience working with player crew etc.

I think for me, I'd help centrally fund something I wouldn't have bought on my own.  I like the idea that I have some part ownership in something awesome that I couldn't have afforded otherwise.  It's different to borrowing a ship from someone else if I have a legitimate emotional and financial stake in it.

'Woger that' to the Orion acquisition - and agreed with the org-owned mechanics.  I can fly one ship at a time, so I'm hoping to make my personal fleet as available as is needed within the community.

I really believe that more info is required from RSI.  dMw has never had any problem with members chipping in, at least none that I recall so it shouldn't be a biggie.

As far as org assets go, colour me negative but what risk are said assets under in case of infiltration/account hijack.  That would be my primary concern.

I voted no. Not because I'm against the idea, I think it's a very good one, but because I think/hope there will/may be options for doing this in game. In which case the currency required would be UEC's rather than pound notes. We shoudl wait and see what develops IMHO

So you really voted YES then. There's little difference in investing time earning real money to spend on ships vs investing time in earning UEC to spend on ships .... just depends which nets you more in the long haul ;)

smilodon

Fair point, although for me the game is about working to achieve something rather than just buying it. I get a much greater sense of achievement if I've earned something in game. Not a lot of logic but there you go 😀
