minecraft server update

Just had a request from the kids, would it be possible to update the server to the latest version? I know we dont play it as much anymore, but if there is a map update would this be possible? or do we need the map and can live without until its brought up to date?

Server is running v1.8.1

Note that due to threats of legal action by the new owners of Minecraft (guess who!) that Spigot/Bukkit and their plugins are no longer available. So no map, backups, locked chests etc.

thanks for the server update...well that was a surprise from MS..not. I know ill take over the biggest game of the century...then alienate users who want to run addons that improve the game..a55es

the kids have said that 1.80 has all the stuff they want..is that maps/ locked chests for that??

Currently, if it's not in the server by default then it's not happening.
