Quote from: Obsydian;395878i got me a Black with a Blue upgrade, so I'm still pondering whether or not to apply it :)
Ditto.  It's same with all of the upgrades I have, they're sat in hangar and not applied yet.  I figured there was no rush and you never know when a spec change will make one or other version more or less attractive!

I chassis upgraded my 325i to a Cutlass Black and there does appear to be a change with the AC 1.03 update. However it's purely cosmetic rather than structural. I can't comment on the Blue and Red but the Black now has a lot of new textures and some reshaped panels, thrusters etc. It looks far more beaten up, scratched etc but not specifically damaged. Well worn I would say. This fits in nicely with the Asteroid/Industrial hanger. There are new buttons and everything seems to be working. There's a couple of clipping issues but that's all. However the Cutlass looks exactly the same size and dimensions. So unless they are planning further big changes then I think Tut should be happy :)

One nice consequence of the upgrade is that I now get all the hanger types as standard even though I only have the one medium ship.

Whatever's gone wrong it's not my fault.

I'm still toying with the idea of cashing some ships in for a red. The more I think about it the more I dislike dogfighting. I think I prefer the larger ships myself.

I believe there is a bit if a rethink still in planning. At the moment the Cutlass isn't a match for a Hornet or a 300i. The 'rumour' is that the developers at Foundry 42 are working on the ship as it plays a big role in the single player game. So a combination of it not being up to the job in Arena Commander and it needing a rework for the Squadron 42 means you're not out of the water yet. I'd certainly like to see it get some beefed up armour and the guns put out some more damage. I'm not sure that it needs much of a size/shape change and don't think it will get one as it's just been reskinned as is.

It's not great. I can't see the justification for time here. It wasn't that bad to begin with.

With regards to the time, they basically rebuilt/redesigned the whole ship from the ground up.  It's now bigger, has side loading doors, lost the floor docking collar (which I am pretty annoyed about tbh), redesigned cockpit and seating arrangements so now both pilots can get in or out without affecting the other.  I prefer the look of the new model, but would like to see how it feels.

Let me make one thing clear. I LOVE their ship models. I don't think they've produced a single one yet that I don't at least like. But there is more to it than that.

I would sooner have a base design of something out there than spend all this additional time and energy redesigning stuff. Especially since there are so many ships still sat on the drawing board. Yet we still see concept sale after concept sale with the same reasoning. "It funds development".

It isn't possible for a game to be completed without capital, I understand that. But from a software developer point of view, while their developing alright, I would expect them to be more agile. That is, I expect to see progress, in the hands of the client (us) at the end of each cycle.

It's not uncommon for features to take up one or more cycles without seeing someone improvement to the main code base, it might not be stable enough, and that's fine. But to go this long without putting something into the clients hands.... It starts to seem like they're struggling. So when I see a ship redesign, I think, "what's that covering up?"

I should state that I'm still waiting for my phoenix. ;)

Yeah, I hear you.  The delay has been excruciating, especially since Chris said at last year's GamesCom that we would have 3.0 by the end of 2017. but we're almost there!

One of the biggest reasons for not being more agile in the move from 2.6.3 to 3.0 is the sheer size of the task to switch from the non-persistent networking code, utilising the old item Pott system and user interaction to the new networking code, item system 2.0 and the inner thought system and subsumption driving the NPCs and mission system.  From what I've read, nothing lent itself to an agile delivery - it's a Big Bang all or nothing approach, hence the need to wait until they have all of the game systems in sync and talking to each other.

However, once we have 3.0, which includes the new delta patcher by the way, they will be much better placed to make more frequent code and content drops on an almost weekly basis.  We should then see many of these new ships appearing in the game once they are ready, instead of having to hold them back due to the systems they rely on not being out yet (aurora, Connie and cutlass reworks, to name just three).

The nearness of it all is almost palpable!..
