Dead Men Walking Air

I think it is about time that we talk about what to do with our FBO's and group.

In May the traffic on our FBO's has gone down to about half of what it was in March and April.
Only two members fly actively.

The FBO's use supplies every day, even if no one flies there or not. If the FBO gets traffic, then we earn enough for supplies.
One passenger per day, per FBO, is enough to keep going. But the supplies need to be bought, packed and flown out to the FBO's.

Yesterday I flew out 5000kg of supplies, so the FBO's now have 60 days worth.
After that they will close and after 40 more days they will get torn down if no one resupplies them.
60 days will keep them open until August so there is no immediate crisis.

So what I am saying is that we started this as a group, but if the group is dead, maybe we should just let the FBO's die too.

Edit;
Of course  it is better to sell them than to let them die.

I've had an enforced absence due to my reinstallation problems.  I'm now back installed again, but I am very busy with work and so whilst I might get some flying done on FSE, I can't commit any major amounts of time to it.

Are there specific things that we need to do to keep the FBO's open?   Would it be helpful if we had some kind of tracker thread here on the forum to track where we are against deadlines?

The things we need to do is to buy and fly out supplies. To get those we need funds. To get that we need to fly.
As for the tracker thread; I think we are in it.

If you in the FSE page click FBO, FBO Mgt, Dead Men you will get a FBO list with relevant info.
The manual has a section on FBO Operation that explains how to keep FBOs running.

So you think we should continue?

Personally, as FSE does not have the tubeliners I like flying, it does not particularly float my boat.  I enjoy the flying, not the grind.   It would be great if the FSE group can continue, but I'm not the best person to count on as it would only ever be a smaller part of my preferred flying time.   Perhaps others can contribute their time if that is what they are interested in doing?

im am more than willing to continue flying with fse, problem is that real life has got in the way for the moment. I managed a couple of flights last month, and i realise that its not fair on a couple of people keeping the boat afloat, but if we can get people to realise that they can get there fix for fsx flying for us on fse than on their own i think we could be onto a winner. Although if they released tube liners on fse i think that would attract a lot more.

I have only managed about 10 hours in gta in over a month and a half and elite hasnt been touched since Feb.

Tea there are some full procedual aircraft supported in fse...cant find the supported list anywhere at the moment..but i think the q400 is on  the list although i could be wrong

Me too. It only becomes a grind when the community is gone.

We can not tell other people what to play. So maybe it is time to move on? The statistics show minimal interest from the FSE group members.

Sparko

To be totally honest, im getting a little bored of flying smaller aircraft and like TL i do actually prefer the larger commercial planes and its a little disappointing that FSE doesn't really accommodate for this.

Whilst you can fly B200's and small business jets its not really doing it for me, as much as i do like the Carenado aircraft i have.  Its just not challenging any more.  All i seem to do is take off, level off then use time compression to get to the start of my approach and then land again, all with no autopilot or the need to set up a course or a plan, which is what i enjoy the most (when its worth doing, which it isnt when your trying to move cargo around or passengers to earn cash as quickly as possible).

Also when flying  in FSE i have traffic turned off as i tended to connect to our FSHost server, but it makes the atmosphere so empty and unrealistic.  I am tempted to start flying on VATSIM again as i miss the ATC and the flight prep that you have to do, also connecting to their servers you see other aircraft/simmers which at times can get rather busy and much more enjoyable.

Im not saying i wont fly in FSE its just with the aircraft being on the smaller side it doesn't really do it for me any more and i do miss the VATSIM experience.

If we do decide to keep them open, we really do need more people in the group.  Having 3 or 4 regular/semi regular people really isnt enough.  I have tried posting on the FSE forum to welcome any pilots to our group, more than once, whether they are veterans or new to simming but havent had the desired response.

I just think FSE needs a bit more, it would be ideal if they had their own server (similar to VATSIM) where you could see other FSE users moving their cargo etc, not necessarily have ATC but just more traffic to add to the experience.  It would definitely bring people together more and make more of a competition out of FBO's.

I can't tell if you are serious or having a laugh so I will try to be short. :-)

Everything you say that bores you is your own choice. You choose to play like that. Vatsim for instance is a FSE partner. No need to cut that out. You can fly bigger planes. You can set up flightplans.

Yesterday I did a trip with 2 people in a Cherokee. Real rainy weather, low ceiling. lots of wind, high mountains. IFR to ENSD @27. NO GPS.
Boring? No way! :-)

I never said IT was boring I said I'm getting bored of smaller aircraft meaning I've flown them that much recently that I want to go back to the larger liners.

I understand I can use vatsim on FSE but I'm still limited to the aircraft that FSE support I.e no b737 trips across Europe from Heathrow to Palma.

No of course not :)

Thought you two were going to need a room there.

I don't mind the flying, but if only a couple of us are going to do it, do we need to lose some of our fbos and concentrate on the others

Nope, not upset either.   My passion at the moment is the PMDG 777, I'm loving it and I can't fly it in FSE.   If I could do both then I would happily do it, but I can't.   Much like Sparko, I really enjoy setting up & managing the flight systems on the big tubes plus I get to listen to awesome jet sounds :p   The manual landings in them are just as fun to me and I believe a little harder than landing a smaller plane.

Hey Guys,

Please excuse me for posting here in this topic, it feels like a group convo of which I'm not part, but I wanted to offer a little insight to my FSE experiences and to offer any help to ease the grind if I can.

I'm not very good at structuring well written forum posts so please bear with me as I ramble.....and please be kind :)

There are complex aircraft in FSE i.e. PMDG J41. ERJ135/145 (I use Feelthere model), and you can fly the 737. A320 in the all in jobs.  There are others though maybe they don't quite fit with a group flying ethos or the one I think some of you are trying to achieve.  They also require a large quantity of "grind" to acquire in game, which can get pretty old, quickly.
I joined FSE because I needed a purpose to use all the flight sim stuff I have and the economy part filled that void and gave it all a new interest for me.  The downside was I started to "grind" to achieve what I wanted in game and being honest this has somewhat spoiled my siming experience.  Having FBO's means you "have" to use them to make their ownership viable and you also "have" to look after them in the supplies department.  Taking out a loan on a large aircraft means you "grind" again to pay the damn thing off less you lose it.  For me who just wanted to fly and enjoy it, it has become another occupation which I really don't need lol.  But ask me to give up all my empire and go back to simpler times...the hell I will, heh, go figure. :D

Think what I'm trying to say here is fly for flying sake and not to build something that evolves into a second job.

Using the big heavy tubes in FSE is a much debated subject, and one that in time I have become to realise wouldn't work.  I think it's the mix of large and small that would totally upset the economic model that exists there.  There is always Flyteline, which is similar to FSE but accommodates all kinds of aircraft but if you have a look there, it doesn't seem a very popular site.  Not knocking anything or anyone, buts stats don't lie.

http://flyteline.no-ip.biz:8080/fseconomy/

Anyways I wanted to offer any help that I can.  I have quite a few heavy haulers that I zoom about the planet from time to time.  If it is of any help I can either lend you any of them or even do resupply jobs for you.  Just give me the heads up, always willing to help.  No fees or favours required.

Lastly, this forum here is a nice place.  Can't be said for many like it around the internet.

Enough rambling....

Best regards, Mitch

Thanks Mitch for your insight. I will look in to the planes you mention. I'm sure TL and Sparko will too.
Anyway, I'm sure we will do Flightsims in some form for years around here.

And Yes, this IS a nice place. You should really join one of our LANs. DMW rent a hotel twice a year and fills it with gamers and other important stuff. (like beer)
Tealeaf (two posts above) is one of the community founders and he will take good care of you if you show up. I was there last year with my wife, flew in from Norway. He and others he had organized, picked us up at Heathrow. We had a great time. Hope to do it again.
