Morning all, lately I've been having some problems with my PC/monitor.

Monday evening I started up my PC, all went good but then my monitor kept putting up the message 1680x1050 is the best to viewed at.
I've checked the settings and all were fine. After that the message kept popping up every minute so I decided to do a PC restart.
Then my PC would start up and close itself down after 30-60 seconds over and over. Decided to press and hold the power button so it would  close down completely.

As I had to make dinner I waited a bit and turned it on again and it was working fine again.
I've had this a few weeks back also one time but now I'm getting a bit concerned that I might have to see this as a warning.

Any suggestions what could be an issue/problem?
Specs if needed will be posted tonight if needed.

Possibly your GPU over-heating?

Give it a damn good clean paying attention to the fan blades (compressed air can for this) and, of course, make sure they are actually spinning!

I've been checking my old mail, it seems my PC is from 2012. Might aswell have a look into what might be worth upgrading.

Added a screenshot of the 2012 setup.

BTW, I'll have a look into your suggestion. Cheers OB!

@ Sneaky, no temp software running atm.

I've been playing some BF1 again last night and was checking the GPU temperature. It was around 61°C the entire time so quit reasonable.
I'll still do a dust out though so thanks for the tips all.

Maybe it's also time for a bit of an upgrade for this PC. Let me know what you'd upgrade on this, thinking about spending around â,¬300,-

Pete cant you reuse your HDD, Case and PSU save you some money :) which you could use on other bits?

If I were you Pete,  I'd do the clean out and see how that goes, then try and wok out what is causing the real problem. If it'a a monitor, then hardly worth replacing the whole PC to find the problem is still happening.

Then wait a bit until you have the money to double up the spend on the new PC as it will be a better investment in the long run.

I was thinking indeed on saving the basic parts (HDD, case, PSU and such).
Maybe add another SSD or such so things run smoother. I'm not up to par on graphics cards, memory and such if mine are still good to go.
If you think this set up is still good to go for a bit then let me know.

The only game that's not running smooth for me is Ark. At the LAN I saw people running it with no problems at all with the highest settings.
BF1 is running fine, no lag etc and with decend settings.

EDIT: Just saw Alberts post.
The monitor is 10+ years old and I was indeed thinking of doing the dust out first and see how it goes.
The upgrade part is just me asking you guys on what would you do with this set up. :worship::cheers:

Upgrade the gpu.

Buy better cpu Cooler, overclock cpu to 4.5ghz.

That's what I'd do :P

True enough, the CPU is fine for another year or two, RAM is 1600, probably still good enough for any games out there.

If you were to invest in a GTX 1070 or Radeon Equivilent (does it exist?), replace the cooler for something big and blowy and replace the monitor with the one I can give you for free (Dutchies stick together!), then you'd probably be in decent shape.

https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/570319/msi-radeon-rx-480-gaming-x-8g.html is good value and a big upgrade to your current GFX.

https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/239454/cooler-master-hyper-212-plus.html - need to check size fits in your case depending on which cooler you buy.

The monitor is an Asus P278Q 27" 1440p, easily driven by a 1070 or RX480.

I would get the 1070. nVidia are kings of the high end. AMD do decent budget solutions... but if you can afford a 1070 it is the way to go.

I would also suggest avoiding air coolers. Get one of the AIO water coolers like a Corsair H80 or H100 (depending on if you have a free 120mm fan slot, or 2x 120mm fan slots). That will allow you to get the 2500k to a good overclock, essentially buying you a few more years of life out of it. The sandy bridge CPUs are still competitive CPUs when pushed over 4ghz... no need to upgrade that yet.

More than happy to overclock your CPU for you at a LAN, if you did not want to do so yourself, btw... but it is really quite simple.

I doubt Duvel would bring his case from the Netherlands to March.

Yes that's a good point :lmfao:
