Hi all!

The September WAN will run from Thursday the 3rd til Sunday 6th.

There will be some semi-organised / planned events, mainly in the evenings. On Saturday we will be around on discord all day for some ad-hoc gaming.

Below is a rough schedule and list of other games worth installing if you want to join in over the weekend.

Thursday

2000 - Quake III

Friday

1900-2100 Wreckfest
2100+ Table Top Simulator, Pummel Party, Jackbox... and so on.

Saturday

1200-1600 Ad-Hoc - We will be playing some L4D2 at some point!
1600-1800 - Chivalry: Medieval Warfare

1900-2200 - Battlefield 3 : dMw vs The World* on our own server.
*Depends on numbers, if there are enough of us and the server fills we will try to get us all together vs the publics.

RUN THIS AFTER YOU INSTALL BF3 - https://www.evenbalance.com/pbsetup.php. If not, you may have trouble connecting to the server... EA and all that.

2200+ Table Top Simulator, Pummel Party, Jackbox... and so on.

Sunday

This is due to be a social chit chat and unwind before back to the weekday slog! Grab a beer and come along.

Regarding the Quake 3. There is a mod called OSP which was widely use for the multiplayer. It really enhanced the vanilla Quake 3 experience. I already have it from a previous version of Quake 3 I still have installed. Part of this mod is a config generator. It has a GUI in which you can customise the server setup, from game mode, number of players right through to which items you want to disable and more. It's very easy to set up and will spawn the server for you with the click of a button.

Is this of use? I am happy to set up a server and spawn it for people to join. I have version 1.03 which is in the link above but I can zip up my folder and share it just to make sure we are all running the same version.

My other question would be what type of game mode will be played, Free for all, Team DM, Capture the flag? Capture the flag is very good in Q3 and has a nice balance of attack vs defence but TDM is a classic.

I came into this world with nothing,
through careful management I\'ve got most of it left.

Sounds useful, but only as long as it is easy for people to install...I also assume if we end up not using it (so if some people can't get it working for whatever reason and we have to abandon ship) it won't affect our joining non-modded servers?

If so then I don't see why not, could be worth a go. Re: gamemode, I'd suggest we start with something more objective focused like CTF, and when we tire of that and just want to shoot each other we can swap over to TDM or deathmatch :D

It's just a folder you extract to your Quake 3 directory. When you launch Quake 3 there is a Mods menu option that will pick it up. No configuration required.

I've managed to create a dedicated server and got that working and visible online. It runs the OSP mod so when people join it will just mean the mod is loaded and run at that time. Doesn't require anything else from people. The server will appear under the Multiplayer menu option or can do direct connect with /connect myIpAddress in the console (`) to toggle the console.

I've uploaded OSP to dropbox. Just needs to be downloaded and extracted to your Quake 3 Installation directory like so:

Sounds like it is worth a bash, and nothing lost either way.

I'll download it, I would encourage others keen to join us on Thursday night to do the same! :D

For those that are interested in playing, I did put some information in another thread but I'll put here also:

Open the console with `
Try these commands to sort out resolution if you are having issues

/seta r_mode "-1"
/seta r_customheight "yourMonitorHeightResolution"
/seta r_customwidth "yourMonitorWidthResolution"
/writecfg autoexec
/vid_restart

writecfg autoexec - This writes it to a config file (.cfg) so it will be executed when the game launches each time and will save your settings
vid_restart will refresh the game engine, applying the changes

If you wish to change the fov use the command /cg_fov aNumber
For instance mine is /cg_fov 110

There's a strong chance when you copy the OSP folder into your Quake 3 directory it will use my config. You may want to change this due to my binds (I am using E S D F).

I have picked a decent CTF Map to play on with but it will need to be downloaded first. This game was built a long time ago and the options for increasing the download speed from the server is very limited. I am going to leave the server up and running throughout the day so if you could find it in the Multiplayer tab and connect to it to allow the map to download ahead of time it will save you 5-10 mins later. The server is called -=DMW=-. For the map to download:

Go into Settings -> Game Options and enable "Automatic downloading".

For some reason I can't edit my previous post

It's likely your in game name will be the same as mine also due to the config from OSP. You can change it in the settings or in the console with /name yourNameHere
You can add colours to your name (if you so wish) by doing /name and then ^ followed by a number, the ^ will disappear and the next thing you type will have a colour applied to it.

Couple of things: /writecfg is in fact /writeconfig. /w? shows that. for fov seta /cg_fov 110 is needed.

Lastly, I couldn't find the server name as stated above. Not sure if you can share the map name so I can join another server and get it please?

Or provide the IP address because even searching CTF format comes up with no server with our name.
Cheers, Bert

Thanks for clarifying console commands Albert.

Server ip address is: 82.71.50.82
