Wonder if anyone can help.  I've put my Inno3d geforce4 ti4200 in my pc tonight, but now when i play any games as soon as it goes into any 3d scens it crashes.  Here's what i've tried allready.

1. Tried diffrent detonator drivers 40.41 and 41.03.
2. Both d3d and opengl modes do EXACTLY the same.
3. Reinstalled cs and its still same.
4. Prayed to the mighty god Rah to rain a plague of frogs on Sadako.

Ok maybe the last one wont help, but it'll make me laugh.

Try the WHQL drivers first. If it still crashes - take the card back.

Run away from the 40.xx drivers for they are filled with evil pixies and poo.

Try the 30.82 drivers, making sure you use either the XP version or the 98/ME version, dependent obvioulsy on your OS. These are the current release drivers.

If that doesn't work go right back to the 28.32 drivers which are rock solid.

If you still can't get it running then take Old Blokes advise and return it.

And WHQL would be what exactly?

Windows Hardware Quality Labs certified.

Old Bloke appears to be on the server, so I'll take the liberty of answering for him.

Short Answer: WHQL stands for Windows Hardware Quality Labs.  WHQL drivers are basic drivers guaranteed to work with Windows. If you use them and they still don't work then the card is buggered.

Long answer: Their blurb states ......

QuoteMicrosoft offers the Windows Logo Program for Hardware to help customers identify systems and peripherals that meet a baseline definition of platform features and quality goals. These features and goals help provide a good Windows experience for the end user. System and peripheral manufacturers whose products pass Windows logo testing can license the Windows Logo for use on product packaging, advertising, collateral, and other marketing materials for all systems and components that pass compliance testing.

Which translates to " Windows is crap, and therefore in order to allow any kind of consistent performance from systems and hardware running said crap operating system, Microsoft asks that hardware vendors provide drivers that are guaranteed to work with their bug ridden excuse for an operating system. Granted most of the advanced functionality of the hardware will be lost in the process, and as a result the hardware vendor will look like a crap manufacturer, which they are not.

But more importantly Windows will not crash and therefore Microsoft will look like they are quality, which they are not."

Right mate, the way to sort this not Detonator drivers! They are bollox, always try the latest drivers made by the card manufacturer. So Inno3Ds latest version of the nVIDIA drivers should do it. Detonator always fails for me I have a Creative card. The windows one fails too as it is just the Detonators again
Failing that new card for you!

Well Albert i hope your right. I'm practically pulling my hair out here trying to get this little f'ker to work.  I've tried the 30.82 drivers which still do exactly the same, i've uninstalled all others drivers and let windows install its own and still exactly the same.  I've changed all setting in Bios to their reverse (if its on turn it off, if its big make it small) and still its the same.

P.S Any news on that plague of frogs yet?

albert

Nah forget the BIOS just defaults, just get rid of all the drivers and uninstall the card. after downloading the manufacturer drivers of cuorse then install them. If it doesn't work then either you have an on board card active, thre is a bug so check the manufacturers FAQs or the card is shafted. But if the card is picked up by windows it is unlikely to be broke.

A few more things you could try.....

Turn off your virus software and try running a 3D game. This is a really wild long shot but might work.

Make sure you have no IRQ conflicts. Do't put any PCI card into the slot right next to the AGP slot as this often leads to conflicts. The only apparent conflict you can have is with  the IRQ Holder for PCI Steering device which will always use the same IRQ as the GeForce. If you have an ISA devices just change the slot IRQ in windows system manager.

Are your Mobo drivers (AGP, Via 4 in 1 etc) up to date.

There are a vast array of bios issues etc. If you can advise as to your CPU, Mobo, RAM and OS set up I might have a few more.

To be honest there are all sorts of things it might be, from AMD CPU conflicts to incorrect AGP aperture settings. Before you start down this road the advice to try the card in another PC or just ask for a replacement is the best you'll get. If the card works in the other PC or the replacement card gives the same problem then you'll have to try out the other options.

Good luck

By the way what did this card replace?

SecretSquirrel

What OS are you using ?

are you doing a clean install or over other manufacturers drivers from previous card?

If your using XP try this
http://www.guru3d.com/files/.........or try the forum - i found it useful for solving my prob.

This prog clears the conflict between 30xxx drivers which are in xp to the 40xx drivers - may work
