There's anice review over here that sets out how some of the modern gfx cards currently perform on the unreleased Doom3.  Worth a read so you'll know what you'll get!  Just remember that gfx card drivers are still raw and so the final numbers *will* change, so don't base your purchase on this review alone :D

Those of you running older gfx cards will also be pleasantly surprised as the  fps is still at quite a good level.  GF3 owners fear not ;)

Anyone who overclocks their gfx card should also read the article, just so you know why your gfx card performs differently to the way it usually does!

Actually theres a nifty setting in the doom cfg file that, when you change it accordingly, presses some extra juice out of your system.

The line in the .cfg file is:

seta image_cacheMegs "32" 'at default setting

change the value between "" to

with 256megs system mem "96" or "128"
with 512megs system mem "256"
with 1gig system mem "512" or higher

As a reference I run it on a laptop with 512meg ram, 1.5 ghz pentium M and Ati M9000. Got about 15-25 fps on low quality 640x480. Now with the line changed to "256" value, i can play the game at 800x600 medium quality at about 30-40 fps with no change in system stabillity.
Im not exactly sure what this setting does, but something with caching and mem swapping i'd imagine; maybe the .cfg file is from, eh, the xbox version?

It's like a free hw upgrade, i tell you!

Oh and this is not my discovery, some folks at some forum were the ingenious ones. just thought i'd share.

Don't know the truth of it but I'm sure those of you with it pre-ordered will be able to confirm soon enough ;)

Take care with the drivers for ATI Drivers for DOOM3...I threw em on and had a hell of a time with getting the PC to see the "SM BUS CONTROLLER"

Maybe just me being crap but after a bit of digging it seemed to be a common concern on Intel type mobo's
