Well, after a long wait here are the details for Dead Men Walking LAN VI.  
Please note that we have 44 places and these will be allocated on a first come first served basis.  

Members of dMw's Bravo, Charlie & Delta Companies are hereby given advance notice of the event.  
Alpha Company members will not be able to see this thread or book places at the LAN for a further 7 days,
so please do not mention it in the open 'Alpha' forum until Wednesday 4th August

Note: Almost everyone turns up on the Friday between lunchtime and early evening to have a great social eating & drinking session.  Gaming then continues into the small hours. Turning up on Friday is highly recommended!

LAN VI Details:

NEW Dates:  Friday 29th, Saturday 30th & Sunday 31st October 2004
NEW Venue:  Oliver Cromwell, March, Cambridgeshire.
Times: The LAN venue opens at 12.00pm on Friday lunchtime and the LAN will finish by 5.00pm on Sunday 31st October.
Costs: For the venue - £15 total per head for the whole weekend
Costs: B&B room prices per night: £50 for a double, £50 for a twin room (ie £25.00 per person).  Sole occupancy is charged for the full room rate.
Room Availability: 35 x Double; 8 x Twin
Costs: Friday evening - 3 course meal in the hotel - £13.50 per head (including coffee)
Costs: Saturday evening - 3 course meal in the hotel - £13.50 per head (including coffee)

The Oliver Cromwell offers:

When calling you *must* mention that you are booking in on the dMw rate, otherwise they will charge you full price!

When the Oliver Cromwell is fully booked you will need to book into the The Olde Griffin Hotel, March, Cambridgeshire which is 200yds down the road or a B&B etc.  

Amongst other things the LAN will feature:

- a list of officially supported games
- organised competitions
- official LAN Admins  
- late night gaming

Important Note
As you may know, LAN VI was originally booked in good faith with the Griffin Hotel last Monday, however on Tuesday morning we received a call from the owner of the Hotel advising that we could not use the nightclub on Friday as they had a successful weekly disco each Friday night - this is something that at LAN V we realised might be a future problem for us.  Oldbloke and I discussed the alternatives (including doing a alternative Saturday/Sunday/Monday LAN) and decided that the best option for dMw was to move LAN VI to the Oliver Cromwell.  

This was not a decision taken lightly, but one we believe to be in the best interests of dMw.  We negotiated an excellent deal with the Cromwell and their published costs are far higher.  The prices  the rooms are offered at are very similar to LAN V accommodation prices and the quality of the venue far superior.  We also won't have the Griffin's Friday night disco crowd wandering in off the street and disturbing our gaming and equipment security as we suffered at LAN V.

Part of the negotiation for the keen pricing obtained was over the meals.  For this reason we are suggesting that our Friday night and Saturday night meals are eaten in the hotel.  The restaurant is good quality and they have offered to do a 3 course meal for just £13.50 per head.  If as many people as possible can eat in the restaurant on those two nights then we have a good chance of negotiating better rates next time if we continue suffering the 'disco' problem at the Griffin.  Indeed we suggested that the majority of us would be likely to eat in thte hotel restaurant on those two nights at this LAN.   Oldbloke and I realise this is an imposition, but we had to take a decision on behalf of the community to get LAN VI off the gorund, otherwise it may not have happened.  We hope that we will get a your support in this respect.

We think LAN VI is going to be our best ever.  Book your place now to make sure you do not miss out!

Why has this thread been temporarily closed?

LAN VI was booked in good faith with the Management of the Griffin Hotel last Monday; prices were negotiated and agreed, dates confirmed and all rooms reserved.  However on Tuesday morning we received a call from the owner of the Hotel advising that we could not use the nightclub on Friday as they had a successful weekly disco each Friday night.  She asked if we would mind turning up on Saturday morning instead.

Those who have attended previous LANs will recognise that such a late start is not an ideal formula as you have lost half a day's gaming by the time you are set up, connected to the network and loaded all your software.  As peeps have tended to start leaving from 2pm onwards on Sunday this would mean a little over a day's gaming and this is an unacceptably short period of time.  

With this in mind we are finalising terms with an alternative venue to put up in competition with the Griffin.   We have informed the Griffin that we need Friday night access and will make a final decision tomorrow morning once terms are finalised and we have heard from the Griffin's owner again.  Please note that an alternative venue will unfortunately mean a change of date (sorry Radders) if we go down that route.

We apologise for the slight hiccup in arrangements, but we are sure you will appreciate that this is due to circumstances totally beyond our control.

Full details of the LAN will be reposted and reconfirmed tomorrow when known.

Awww poo.  I was actually planning to come to LAN VI, and break my LAN virginity (so to speak).  Unfortunately these new dates now clash with my holiday, so I won't be able to make it.  

Would've been nice to put some faces to the disembodied voices, but c'est la vie.  Well played TL & OB for sorting out what looks to be a superior venue.  I'll have to catch you 'orrible lot at the next one.
