I am going to upgrade my monitor (currently I have a 17 in CRT) In your opinion would you stick with a CRT or go LCD - especially in terms of playing games.  I can’t seem to decide whether to get a 19 or 20 in CRT or a 17 in LCD monitor help!!!

Mark.

i cant go into much technical stuff about monitors cos i dont really know about them. I got a 19" CRT and do alot of gaming (maybe too much ;) ) I always find on CRT's that the picture is brighter and more crisp. TFT's now though are just as good so it all depends on how much ur looking at spending.

Depends on if the "wow look at that" value outways the 4 x price tag,I'm sticking to crt unless my wife buys me one for doing as Im told. ;)

Well I am thinking of getting a totally new system from Dell, so I can't really give a price for a monitor.  However, I've considered the following options.

19" (18.0 VIS) UltraScan CRT Monitor (my first choice)

17" UltraSharp Flat Panel Monitor

22 " (20.3 VIS UltraScan CRT Monitor (might be a bit big for my desk!!)

Just wonder what you lot would pick??

well, my 17" LG TFT (L1710B) is the best bit of computer hardware I've ever purchased.

so if it were me, I'd go TFT :)

Agreed.

The L1730B I'm using at the moment is damn fine too. Better than any CRT i've ever used.

I'd go TFT as well BUT I would wait until October-December. Atm the prices are high due to production have been focused on laptops (sorry don't now the exact terms of economics). Prices will drop again this fall when the production is back to normal.

Depends on what you use your PC for. I do a lot of work in Photoshop and I couldn't live without a 21" screen.
The problem is I can't find a reasonably priced 21" TFT with a good enough refresh rate for games (16ms or less).  :(

Hey hey!  I have the exact same monitor, it's fantastic!

Picture quality is great, and not had a single problem with it :)

As for Dell, they make some fine PC's.  They kitted out our entire office last winter and the PC's have been pretty good, except for the Intel processors ;)

Cheers guys, I will go for the LCD 17 ".  Thanks again!!! :D

I just got a 17" tft and am happy with it. Used to have a 19" crt.  I run the tft at 1280 x 1024 and it is just as good as the crt. I get no ghosting during games at all.
And it was a bargin, £200.00 notes. Take a look at //www.aria.co.uk and their special deals page. Delivery really fast too.
I do exactly what the little voices tell me to.

PC Specs:- Black box with some fans that go whirrr, a few lights, things inside that get warm, headphones, keyboard (a clicky one), mouse (with buttons and no squeak), disks (2-off SSD and HDD) and a monitor of sufficient proportions.

I got my L1710B 17" TFT from amazon.co.uk in the end.  Cheapest price coupled with delivery.

Never looked back :)
