Although I am definitely convinced that headphones and modmic are the best option for sound quality, I'm not sure I can put up with the extra wire. I'm tempted just to get the Hyperx for the added convenience and it works out cheaper as the modmic alone is £40. In fact I think that's decision made.

I think you've discovered just how hard it is to choose what's right haven't you reddfour? lol.

Unless you spend big bucks compromises must be made, the decision is where you make them.

Headsets are always a personal choice, like most peripherals, but for what's it worth I am still very much enjoying my Steelseries H Wireless :)

Oh I've started looking at wireless headsets since my 5 year old headset is starting to break by now (sounds fine-ish still) and thats one I've looked a bit at and it seems great.
Maybe there\'s something to be said for being different. We are who we are. What more could we ask for?

It's the best wireless one I've owned, but it's a bit expensive.

Swappable batteries are a very welcome addition :)

wireless are ok but i recently changed back to wired, i was tired of having to plug them in to recharge all the time, my new head set(http://www.deadmen.co.uk/forum/content.php?191-dmw-amazon-shop)also at a lan people tend to use other wireless devices that can interfere with the signal.

You're not kidding. To make it worse you can't really try them with your hardware before buying and there are so many conflicting reviews. Some say the HyperX Cloud have good isolation and some say they don't. Some say they sound as good as the Audio Technica M30X and some don't. The other thing is not knowing if two cables coming off the headphones would annoy me or not after a while.

I didn't think it would be a tough decision but after really not liking the Corsair HS30 I can't afford another mistake :D

The H Wireless has two batteries, which you can swap over in about 5 seconds - the second one charges in the base station while not in use :)

Read reviews/forums at Head-Fi.  Those guys know their audio.

I was going to get an ATH-M50x blue/beige some time ago, and decided not to due to information found there regarding sound stage issues.

I have a Superlux HD668B ordered, so I'll let you know how it sounds when it arrives.

I think You'll like them . I have the very similar Samsom SR850 for my studio setup and I paid less them £30 for them. Can't beat them for the price, got a fairly neutral sound, and very comfy with a long cable for moving around.

Thanks. They are semi open though so probably won't fit my needs.

I am considering upping my budget a bit and getting the AKG K550 which are currently £99 from Richer Sounds. The reviews on Amazon say that have an amazing soundstage for a closed cup headphone and great isolation which are the two main boxes ticked. Although reviews on Headfi suggest the treble isn't that great (although Amazon reviews don't seem to agree). It would mean having to skimp a bit on mic though (Antlion Modmic would be out of budget) so probably get the Zalman clip on for £6.

It's tough but I think a poor sounding headset would bother me more than 2 cables coming off them.

Rather good in the cost to performance ration stakes, interested to know if they live up to the hype.

Head-Fi people are usually audiophiles, and technical folk.

Amazon caters to some of those, and the general populace.  I would place trust in the people who are passionate about audio, and not random Joe's.

Once I have the HD668B's in my hand and broken through, I'll cast my vote.

Here's a bit of fun ...

Tidal, the new streaming service, has a 'pay extra for hi-fidelity sound' option. To see if your kit is up to it they've got a little test up.

I was quite disappointed to only score 3/5 using my Sennheiser G4ME ONEs. But that's probably my ancient ears affecting the score rather than the headset.
