Thanks but I don't sit at a desk. My pc is in the living room. Thanks for trying to help though. Appreciated.

Thanks a lot. I've just got to decide whether to get them or fork out a bit more on the modmic.

If you go with mod mic let me know I would like some of them cable clips :)

Sorry mate but if I do get them I'm not importing them from the US and the UK sellers don't sell the clips separately.

I'd order from the US if it was cheaper but apparently you get stung quite hard by customs. It makes the price same as UK distributors so it's easier to buy from here in case I have to return it. Otherwise I'd help you out no problem.

Ordered the Modmic 4.0 from overclockers.co.uk (sorry BT). Well over budget and it's eaten into my new gfx card budget so that's now back on hold.

BrotherTobious

Great glad you are sorted. And no need to be sorry at all chief

Quote from: albert;397255Rather good in the cost to performance ration stakes, interested to know if they live up to the hype.

Just received them two hours ago.

Straight out of the box the sound is superb.  Currently listening to the Homeworld 2 remastered sound track in flac format.  Can hear each single instrument, especially during the tracks called "The Trinity" (When they unite the engines), and "The Planetkillers" (When defending Hiigara during the final Vaygr assault).

They are very light, they feel cheap, and look like they're a set of 5$ cans.  Not bad on the comfortability scale when compared to corsair vengence 2000 wireless which are very comfy.

The sound between the two isn't comparable, however the HD668B are a bit lacking in the base area, but have a very clean crisp sound.

Did this test, first test started at 20Hz, second test at 18Khz (frequency responces), and I don't have the best ears out there.  The dynamic range test was audible till around 96dBFS.  Quality test passed with flying colours.  During the binaural test I found the right side more bassy, not sure if this is how it is.  Perhaps someone can check it out?

During this short un-burnt experience, HD668B are winners.  Could have better asthetics, but for their price.. who cares.  Apart from the headphones, they come with 2 different cables with different lenghts(1M,3M) , holding pouch, and a cable clip which secures the detachable cable to the headphones.  The usual 3.5 adapter is included.

The male jack attached to the headphones is also flexible, so less damage due to wear-and-tear.

So like many of you I have really shied away from the all in one solution for a headset as I was not happy with my sound quality and Mic quality of my old headset.... Reason for the upgrade a broken rear USB port after some poor cable management when I needed access to the rear of the computer which ****ed me off enough to make a change.

Anyway, I had several decent pairs of headphones in the house but all closed back and I really wanted to try some open headphones for gaming to see if it really would make a difference to me and my play. After a lot of research I opted for the best bang for my buck in the Samson SR850's studio open headphones. At about £30 was minimal money in case I wanted to use existing closed headphones. In combination with this I ordered a cheap clip on Mic as the MOD mic v4 only comes with one fastener and i was not sure which headset i would want to use permanently. I opted Zalman ZMMIC1 which is awful and under no circumstances should be bought even at £5. In the end I used a Neewer lapel Mic that i already had and cost be about £1 which i was using for some really budget video production and the sounds quality is much better!!

This combination is really working for me! Open headphones with studio tuned response curve really does make a difference compared to my vastly more expensive closed headphones from AKG's and Sennheiser's while gaming as the directional sound is much more apparent. I have lost some Bass and I prefer my closed AKG's for music and films but I would highly recommend open headphones for those of you who use headphones for gaming primarily and have a man cave or study where you wont annoy people with some sound leakage from the open headphones.

As i already had USB soundcard/DAC/Headphone amp from creative I am finding the experience over my last headsets to be the difference between night and day!! Now there are problems with this setup! There is no mute switch on the Mic, nor does the Mic have noise canceling capabilities and with a cherry browns people can sometimes hear some clicking if on a skype call. However I wrote a small script to bind a keyboard shortcut to mute and unmute my mic and I may write a proper program to do that later with some kind of tray Icon to determine if the mic is muted or not. At the moment this is working well as button press to mute the Mic.

I may invest in a MOD Mic.. Undecided as the lapel mic doesn't **** me off too much at the moment.

It would be interesting to see everyone's thought on open headsets. I am not sure if this would be suitable for the LAN as you leak too much sound and also too much sounds gets let in, but for home use its a winner for me.

Cheers,

DZ.
