Just a comment on Corsair headsets and Keyboards. I know one of the community had issues with Discord but I also know someone who unplugged his Corsair keyboard and Monster Hunter World no longer took 5+ minutes to load. Seems some of their software conflicts with the OS and games.

That surprises me! I had a Corsair Vengeance 1500 headset for years with zero issues. Could it be a nuanced issue? Was it plugged into a USB 3.x port (as I expect it was a USB2.0 device given its age)? Drivers upto date?

Seems daft to write off an entire manufacturer based on one bad experience?

I didn't write them off mate, just that's 2 issues in as many weeks. It's becoming a theme in so far as many games where there are loading issues or general oddness, people ask is Corsair software involved.

I have a game claw thingy which in all honest I rarely use but the driver never caused me any problems.

Curiosity got the better of me, I had a looksy around a few subreddits. Looks like the CUE software is what causes the issues? Which would explain it as I never used that software even when I had the USB headset. Windows natively picked it up as an audio device and I just ran with standard drives (also wasn't a 7.1 headset, was a 'virtual 5.1'). I also have a Corsair K95, again, without CUE installed, it got wiped out in the last windows update and I never bothered to reinstall it. Seems that'ss where a lot of the issues come from.

The more you know! :)

I take it that the previous 45 pages in this thread didn't offer any clues :flirty:

OK but my recommendation still stands :D

I bought these back in December 2014 and I still love them. Had to purchase replacement ear pads but that's understandable after hundreds of hours of use.

Option 1 - 'Proper' headphones. Non-gaming, with a separate microphone. This option easily leads to the best sound, if you're willing to pay a bit more for it (and the sky's the limit). May be worth pursuing if you're into your music as well as gaming. If interested, we can talk headphones... but that is a deep rabbit hole. This is my personal preference. :flirty:

Option 2 - Gaming headset from a reputable audio company... just like the Sennheiser set Smilo has linked. That is a fairly old model now, I'd look to get the newer version - either the GSP 500 or 600.

The 500 is OPEN. If someone is sat next to you while you game, you will hear their voice and they will hear your game.

The 600 is CLOSED, you won't hear their voice and they won't hear your game.

OPEN headphones have a more spacious sound and are better for positioning in games. They tend to make music sound as if it is coming from outside your head, rather than somewhere between your ears. The different instruments are easier to pull apart, opening the music up. They are, IMHO, far superior to CLOSED headphones as long as you don't need the silence from both your headphones (for other people) and your environment (i.e. 'noise cancellation'). Only get the 600s if you absolutely need this, IMO.

Option 3 - A well-reviewed gaming headset from someone like Corsair, Logitech, etc. Personally I would recommend the G933 from Logitech. Lots of plastic in the build, but the sound is as good as you're going to get before moving up to option 2.

Can confirm, GSP 500's are very good :)

Thanks ever so much guys, family have brought me that gsp 500 that you have mentioned. I have got on wel with the brand and it’s lasted me 3 years so far. Thanks

I love this thread, with all the WFH I've been living in my cheapo headset for 9 weeks, and I now am really struggling with my hearing - to the extent I'm having to lipread when my 2 year old speaks. Wife noticed that it is much worse after I've been on calls all day, so put money down on a set of gsp 600s, hopefully that helps.

111 keep telling me to see a GP, GP won't see me due to corona risk from fixing ears or some such... :(

EDIT: Ha, just looked back, 15 years ago I was the 8th poster, and decent headphones were only £50 :D

Well, my GSP 600s arrived and I love 'em - can keep the volume down to whisper quiet, and no pressure on my actual ears which was potentially part of the problem.

The "mute when you push the mic up" is great, and they are big enough that I don;t forget about them and therefore remember to take them off in between calls etc. Wish they had a USB or wireless connection option, other that that, lovely.

Did someone say.... headphones?

:flirty:

And yes, you do need to get your hearing seen too Twig... if you've had a fairly drastic hearing loss over a short period of time, your GP should really be able to point you in the right direction.. failing that, you could call your local Spec-savers (they do audiometry too). Hard with everything having changed since the 'rona, but don't neglect your health.

Cheers mate, certainly not neglecting it, just having a hard time finding a healthcare professional that will actually see me... Had a phone consult and been given a list of stuff to buy and try which I'm working my way through, and told to check back in a couple of weeks to see if they are now "allowed" to see me, or if the GP practice can find someone who works there who is prepared to flout the "rules"...
