not sure if newcomers will come again if we start removing them  at 8.30 every night when it gets busy

Can't remember if this happens regularly, maybe it was just last night, but the team stacking was atrocious!

A lot of new guys were on and -=[dMw]=- tags were almost all on 1 team. That makes it really difficult to teach the yung uns how to play properly. If we can try and make sure that we spread ourselves across the teams then we would be better placed to control things and to bring on the new blood (as they say). The new guys have to learn how to play PCS style. If you have been on pubs for a long time (no Sheepy public servers not bars) then adapting your style of play to PCS doesn't come naturally. There is no easy answer, we touted the server to bring in new blood and are now reaping the benefits/problems that that causes. to be honest, I reckon some of the new faces will stay and some will play for a while and move on which may solve the problem for us.

Splitting people off onto Baldric may cause more problems than it solves unless we get plenty dMw peeps on both servers. If that doesn't happen then we move the problem from one server to another. Additionally, say people start leaving both servers, we could end up with two 2 v 2 matches on each server as nobody is aware that the other is inhabited. Obviously 4 v 4 would be much more enjoyable but it would mean that people whould have to keep checking the server pages.

Is there any way that AdminMod could be used to allow people on 1 server (MH) to find out how many players are on another server (baldric)? Even better, could it be displayed on a corner of the screen with a command that you could toggle it on and off?

Just a thought :-)

ISTR that Tracker (the in-game Instant Messenger) would allow something like this. Not sure if it's in 1.6 though.

As for stacking ... I suppose with 25 members it's possible that stacking will occur accidentally. It's up to all dMw to spread it about.

Whatever you're going to do, do it quickly! :)  If the server's full every night then that's going to put people off, and by the time you've got a really good way of coping with the overflow the overflow will have scarpered...

So, temporary solution rather than no solution methinks.  When the Meat Hook starts getting busy - say, 16+ players, perhaps an admin can take five or six folk over to Baldrick then and there and open it up for further joiners to play.  Then subsequent people to join MH can be diverted off to Baldrick as necessary.

It shouldn't cause too much of a problem with clan matches, because the Baldrickers can just be shooed back onto the dMw-depleted Meat Hook for the duration of the match.  Right? :)

If more people start turning up at the off-times too then perhaps somebody somewhere will open up a second permanent UK PCS server :)  Or there's always N42.

There's a thought.  If the latency isn't too bad, we could overflow onto N42.  But AFAIK their map download area is still password protected, and the rules are of course slightly different.

Incidentally, since it was mentioned, I think a range of 8-12 players is probably best for PCS play.  Three servers with 8 players would be preferable to one server with 24.  In an ideal world...

:stupid: See! I knew if I posted garbage that somebody would post something sensible.

I remember playing regularly on a set of servers where I had only 1 IP address/ port that I connected to and I was put onto one of 4 servers depending on how full they were. It must have had some proxy type software distributing user connections to the first free space available on a server farm sort of like a firewall cluster is served by a distribution server. I don't know what the software may be but I'll certainly look out the server details. It was over a year ago so it may be diffucult to find, I'm sure the site was French.

It may just have been a fancy router/firewall doing "Load Balancing NAT".
