Been to Manchester, rebuilt Homer and it wouldn't load Linux.  Switched back to the original hardware and went home for some extended head scratching and web searching.  Stay tuned. :?

Tea_Leaf, I've been trying and trying to get you on the phone to no evail.

I think its the memory that the Motherboard dont like.  The board supports 1700-2100 DDR ram, however we have 2600.  Now I know dimms are happy running slower than spec but DDR? I've not a clue.

Anyways, I've gots "Memory Allocation/Overflow" errors when ever I try to boot any O/S on the machine.

Need to talk Tea_Leaf

Cake: Four large eggs. One cup semi-sweet chocolate chips. Three/four cups butter or margarine. One and two third cups granulated sugar. Two cups all purpose flour. Fish shaped ethyl benzene. Twelve medium geosynthetic membranes. Three tablespoons rhubarb, on fire.

DogMeat

Yes, but as PC2100.  The manual sez the mobo only supports PC1600/PC2100 - we have 2 X PC2700.

ok, so the mobo seems happy with the ram. But looks like the ram aint happy at 2100! Hope you've kept that receipt TL! Looks like an exchange is in order.

Oh, just checked epox's site for a bios update, but there is none.

Aye, there's the rub:  keep the mem and swap the mobo or vice versa...

Trouble is that the memory website says PC2700 fits the mobo.  The Epox website is a bit vague and depending on whether you look at the UK or Dutch site you get slightly different, but all incomplete answers.  I'll be calling Epox tomorrow am to discuss as we would prefer to keep the lightning fast RAM that we have.  There are other options, but let's wait until tomorrow am for the next instalment......

seems we were given some misleading info on what RAM the m/b can take.

Tea Leaf is currently doing a sterling job of beating info out of people as we speak.

We will keep you all informed as and when we know.

Right, we ran into a problem with the fast PC2700 RAM that was purchased.  Crucial (the memory suppliers) say their PC2700 works with the Epox mobo we purchased, Epox say it won't and Intel (manufacturer of the i845G chipset on the mobo) say it won't.  Hmmm.  Apparently the i845G chipset is only meant to work with PC2100 and nothing else.  Very strange, but a lot of mobo manufacturers advertise their boards working with both faster & slower RAM supported by the i845G as well.

The upshot of it all is that as we like the mobo (and it is hard to find a MicroATX mobo with everything we want on it) and Epox are an excellent mobo manufacturer we will downgrade to slightly slower RAM - PC2100.  Crucual have agreed to refund the cost fo the PC2700 and we will then purchase 1GB of PC2100 from them.

Stryker is returning the PC2700 as we speak, so all being well we will have the PC2100 towards the end of the week.  We will keep you posted and I will make a posting about the cost saving when I know what it is.

Sorry for the unexpected delay folks - please bear with us.
