I am not normally a whisky drinker, but I really enjoyed our whiskey tasting at the LAN. So I went out and bought myself a bottle of Bowmore Cask. Which I am enjoying, But what were the 2 bottles we had?

I brought the LAPHROAIG QUARTER CASK which was the really peaty flavoured one. Not to everyone's taste but certainly distinctive.

Aye the Laphroaig was rather splendid. As was Spudgun's contribution which I'm sorry I can't remember its name.

From my side, my favourite is Talikser. The 10-year oldd is fine but the 18-year old is sublime.

Since it's first outing a few LAN's ago it's received quite a following. It's very Peaty and was also named Single Malt of the Year 2007.

It's my turn to bring some a malt to the next LAN so I'll being a bottle of 18-year old it may even push to the 57° Distillers edition if I can still source it.

My favourtest favourite of all is Dallas Dhu but since the distillery closed in 1983 it's becoming harder and rarer to find. :(

It was Lameduck who, I think, brought a bottle of Glenlivet.

Pen, good stuff! I would like to recommend Highland Park 30 yrs After trying a 23-year old thing I bought in Iceland customs some years back, I got curious and tried that one. So far, the best I've ever tried.

I brought the more distinctive Drink, a bottle of Vodka well matured (1 day old) and redball which myself and Andy (crazy R1) drank, it was a good year (2008) and was filtered with no added peat in it what so ever just ice.:D

If you are looking for an incredibly smooth whisky with a kick like a mule keep your eyes peeled for Glenfarclas 105 (sometimes called Director's Special).

It is absolutely gorgeous but NB that it is 60% ABV!!!!

£34.99 here

Welcome to the wonderful world of whiskey my friend.

What sort of tastes and textures do you go for?

Whiskeys are very diverse and many things affect the taste, smell, colour etc but for a general flavour for scottish whiskeys you need to look at the region.

I prefer lowlands and Speyside malts which tend to be crisp and light instead of the deap peatiness of the Highlands.

Although the Highlands have a great range so deserve some investigation for sure.

Glenlivet is my favourite easily accessed malt.

I just picked up a bottle of Compass Box Aslay which is absolutely delicious :)

I will bring a bottle to the next LAN
