Those of you that have attended a LAN will know that we give the 'Helping Hard Award' to someone who has particularly helped out in making that event a success.
From this point on, the current and previous recipients of the Award will have the Helping Hand Badge   .

It would be nice to see the helping hand badge awarded permanently for those that have won it.

A good point and one which we're currently discussing..... will post back shortly.

Cheers!

Maybe two colours one for current helping hand award holder and one for previous holders?

That would increase the administration unnecessarily IMHO - the award (current or previous) carries the same weight :)

i did have a lan helper badge as if you remember it was just too close to call for the helping hand so, i think in the end cat got it, and it was well deserved,  i got me entrance back and a nice red lan helper badge..... its now gone ..... can i have it back?

or does the year only thing apply to that?

or maybe a black hand on white background, with the annotation "too close to call for helping hand so we gave you yor money back"

I came into this world with nothing,
through careful management I\'ve got most of it left.

With the exception of the helping hand award, the Lan badges are valid for twelve months, so get to the next LAN if you want your badge back :flirty:

Just updated this with the winner of this LAN's Helping Hand Award winner.

Congratulations Tealeaf!

For April 2011, were Toby and NF joint awarded the prize?

Indeed.

Bizarrely TL had never received the HHA before but that was primarily down to the face that he used to choose the recipient.

This LAN was was more than apt to put that right. He, along with Ninja and Toby, spent untold hours of time and hundreds of PM's in getting this LAN organised. The added (welcome) complication of organising a DMR meet at the same time meant the three of them worked hard for months in getting the planning right.

Along with several others - Oldie for the servers (as always!), Twobad and Lionheart for the technical support, Drunken-Zombie for tech support and for the photography and even young FatBob for bringing along his complete racing rig.

Many others too all helped in their own way be it from restarting servers, setting up tables, clearing away rubbish, taking the young (and attractive) hotel waitress out for the night, etc etc so thank you to you all.

Thanks for the HHA, twas unexpected & appreciated.  Just don't expect the LAN XXI planning team to start work just yet, we need a break!

This LANs (LAN XXII) winner of the Helping Hand Award is FatBob.

Although not physically attending the LAN, he kindly dropped off his racing rig (the size of which needs to be seen to be believed) along with PC and Monitor and left us to it while he ventured off to Cornwall. The Rig itself needs to be carried by two people and is so large it needs to be transported by van.......It's like sitting in one of those racing game sims you find on the pier.

FatBob (with the help of FatDan) never fails to bring this to every LAN and it's a real treat. I looked up on Friday night to see pretty much the entire bar and restaurant staff from the hotel lining up for multiple goes and having a real blast as they organised their own impromptu race.

So thanks Bobby for not failing us this year and for trusting us with your pride and joy. Thanks also to FatDan, who accepted the award on FB's behalf, for also helping move this behemoth time and time again.

:thumbsup2:

The HHA is generally only given once to someone. While it's nice to spread the love, it does mean that people who continually help make the LANs a success time and time again are not formally recognised (apart from being thanked on the day).

Tealeaf, myself and the rest of the community admins really appreciate the time, effort and work put in by people to make these events a success. From Ninja_Frank and Brother_Tobious who are the 'public' face of the LAN through to Gortex who organises the poker night, DZ for the photos (no rush mate!) and the many others who help with PC problems, network issues etc etc. We especially knowledge OldBloke who maintains and runs the Game Servers (and has done pretty much from the start). This involves a lot of work with  pre-configurations prior to the LAN and all throughout the LAN itself.

It's the teamwork that makes the LAN a success and the attendees which make it so much fun. Good job all.
