Broadband Speeds

I thought it might be interesting to see what kind of broadband speeds we all get here.  Spurred on by this bbc article about the readiness of todays broadband for tomorrows technology.

I used speedtest.net (the one Cisco used for their 24 million tests in the article).  At the end you can 'copy direct link' and paste it here like mine below:

Happy with download but my upload SUX!

I personally use speed.io

Here's a speedtest.net one too.

Standard ADSL Business Max. So fantastic speeds there :)

It's not bad. Fibre would be better though :narnar:

no peanuts

I'm not even gonna bother trying on my home connection, since it's so poor. I ran a test on the works connection instead.

I do get different results from speed.io

delanvital

My mobile phone has greater speeds than my regular net

At peak hours I get 1.3 though, which is so crap. Never EVER get Cirque! I can not emphasise this enough. If anything goes wrong it takes them forever to solve it.

Peanuts: WOW!

Penfold

Wow indeed.

1. Who do you work for.
2. How do I piggyback your connection

:norty:

no peanuts

QuotePeanuts: WOW!

I'd say WOW too, if it was my home connection. I doubt I'll ever get close to those speeds though. :ranting2: I'm stuck on a measly 2meg (supposedly 6meg) line.

I'm sure some of the guys at UNI will have similar speeds...Carr0t you listening? :norty:

DuVeL

My speeds will be twice as fast soon.

Zootoxin

Just cancelled my AOL account after 10 months of high ping looking to migrate to O2 on the 7th.

I had to endure the hard sell from AOL why are you leaving etc

here is a snipet from that conversation

Zoot: The main problem I have is ridiculesly high ping its running at 110 most of the time.

Woman: The problem isn't with AOL its the BT phone line, no matter what provider you choose your line will only allow a max of 3.5mb

Zoot: 3.5mb should be plenty so why is my ping so high?

Woman:  I dont know anything about ping

So once I have O2 up and running I will post my speeds here

Why can't we set up our own ISP?

Seriously, I'm sure there's enough talent and skills here to set up an ISP aimed at gamers for instance.
