Typical that I would break my arm just as this is about to be released.

It'd be a shame if we couldn't have a server, if the game is good enough I'm sure people would be willing to chip in a couple of quid?

As said the game has potential, and Dice fixed a lot after ps3 beta so hoping for the best. Also this is not a simulation, I don't think BF games have ever been that. They are more of an "arcadish" run and gun and this does it well. I think one thing it has is the war feeling, there is always something happening and you don't need to run a marathon to find battle and then get one shotted.
Also the lack of own dedis is worrying, why are all the publishers doing this ?

GM, from my reading it was announced in Oct 09 that they would support a dedicated server client (allowing us to run our own server, on our own hardware), but they have since backed away form that and now said that you will only be able to run a dedicated server from one of their trusted partners (so it;s a slightly disingenuous use of the term dedicated server).  The relaxation that still exists afaiaa is that the rented-not-from-them server can still be ranked, whereas a dedicated server client last time around could not be ranked.

So, at the moment it looks like we will not have the ability to run our own server on our own hardware.  So I guess we'll need to assess the rented dedicated server options and as Oldbloke said that's a tricky route to go down if all the games end up like that.

GM, you also mentioned at the start of the thread you wanted something else merged with this.  Can you send me a PM please with what you would like done (inc links to topics/threads etc) and I'll see what we can do.

Thanks.

from what ive been able to find out so far, that there is no specific unranken and ranked server client, its the same client, but merely a setting to make the server unranked..

If we like the game and we decide to support it then you'll not be asked to pay Ã,£2 per month.

for smoother game play turn bloom off, makes very little diff to the look of the game but does seem to help fps (lag),  some have said runninhg DX9 also helps, worth a try:g:

Are the bugs/glitches being ironed out in beta and what's the gameplay like?  That last bit may be difficult to answer as I understand you do not have the Coop modes etc open to you in Beta?

We got the first update in 24h after the release fixing some lag and disconnect issues. After that it has been pretty quiet but people are reporting a lot and what I have read from  twitter messages of different DEV's they are really listening people.
And the beta has only one map and one game mode and that is the Rush, so it is basically another party attacks and other defends. Nice thing is that when you loose your 2 spots that you need to defend, the area expands and you back up to next base and try to defend that. So the map is pretty large, the total amount "bases" you need to defend is 4 after that you loose, or if the attacking party runs out of reinforcements, they loose. And I love the vehicles, they bring so much more into the game. In the beta you have a tank, 2 different kind of light armored vehicles, 2 different choppers and ATV. Best thing is that you can't use those all in once, they come to available in different parts of the map.

The gameplay is very good, it runs smooth and by camping you don't win. So a good team is essential. While there are bugs, I haven't noticed anything game breaking yet.

I really like the 'rush' game mode so far, it's totally epic. The way it suddnely expands the map behind/infront of you (depending on which side you're on) is incredibly well scripted.

For example, if you manage to capture the second pair of objectives an A10 tankbuster flies in and blows up a barricade to let you access the next area - great stuff.

It also manages to make teamwork pay off quite nicely. You get extra points/XP for doing actions that benefit your teammates, and even more if you do things that help out your current squad. There's always been a mechanic nearby to help patch up my b0rked APC.

The network performance has certainly increased after the patch they deployed the other day. There's still a few bugs but I would expect them to get squashed in time for release - nothing game-breaking so far.

Kreg has mentioned the parachute failing to open which i am not sure might be a bug or the fact i forgot to press the key to deploy it.

For those thinking of purchasing this game it is a minimalistic bf2 experience.

By this i mean it has all the bf2 workings but with very few menu's and i wouldn't say watered down more so concentrated orange juice rather than orange squash.

We only have the one map and scenario they might bring further maps out for the beta or as this mode is the one they feel needs the *most* work thats why they have chose it.

It feels like a hardcore mode of cod as such.

I do like it but we need to get everyone together this weekend for a session which i will organise shortly.

Overall it has alot to offer and as we like the battlefield series its worth a shot.

I'm looking forward to getting the game when it comes out.
I didn't get a beta test with my purchase via our affiliate amazon site, so i won't be joining you on the weekend.

nah i found out that its the anti air flak shitkicking my parachute :P just gotta remember to redeploy it ;)

The first patch solved a lot of issues network wise, and there is a lot of graphics optimization to come.

the vehicles work really well, they can be utterly insane in the hands of a good crew and a repair guy, but then again, a good timed assault can bring down a tank just as easy ;)

weapons seem really well balanced tbh, i was sure the tracer gun would be op agaisnt choppers, but you ever tried hitting a bird with a rock, takes a fair bit of time to learn :D

and yeah the sound and looks when those A-10 thunderbolt II hammer down with each base captured is awsome :D

What I read from the dev twitter messages, we are playing 6weeks old build and the textures will get better in the full game. Also they are optimizing it a lot atm.

QuoteThe 'high' texture detail level isn't implemented in #BFBC PC beta. Is in the final release so will be a bit sharper

Quotebattlefields pre destruction = prone, BFs post destruction (BFBC1 and 2) no prone. Gameplay is fire and maneuver, not drop and hide

So there won't be prone, but tbh that explanation is pretty true. The game is supposed to be fast paced war, not camping.
