Quote from: suicidal_monkey;313593...how many Mb do people actually use - I suspect I would very very rarely get anywhere near 500Mb let alone 100Mb... but maybe I'm not aware how much data is going through my phone?
I'm actually as low as 40-50 MB each month (I've got 50 included in my subscription). The main reason it is that low, is that I have access to wireless almost everywhere I am (and the times when I surf the net whilst not on wireless, I use Opera Mini which saves you tremendous amounts of MBs on the net). And I ride a bike to work every day, so I can't really surf on the phone while doing that. But if you have a lot of commuting to and from work, or lots of travelling etc., I guess you easily could use some hundreds of MBs a month (if you would spend your time on YouTube, streaming from Spotify or other data-intense services).

i used 200mb last month, all i did was the occasional surf and left the auto updates on. for downloading any apps or extended browsing i tend to connect it to free wifi's or my wifi at home when i cant be bothered walking up the stairs to my main.

i also use an app called 3g watchdog.. i think its been mentioned on here, it monitors all your 3g downloads so you can see how close you are to your limit, and it doesnt monitor  if you use wifi (unlike the crap app on the  equally crap n97)

I came into this world with nothing,
through careful management I\'ve got most of it left.

The best one I have found and used for about 2 years now is "netcounter".

Found in the market. And its free.

It splits it down to Total/monthly/7 days/today for the phone using 3g.

It then does the same for using Wifi, so its all separated and you can track everything.

I run a little app called 'Stats' which keeps track of calls, texts and data. I use my phone once or twice a week as a wireless access point for my Netbook but don' do much more than 400 meg a month.

Whatever's gone wrong it's not my fault.

I can recommend 'Stats' as well. Very good app to keep track of your stats, both for data, calls and texts :)

T-Bag

I have a computer at home, one in the office and one in the lab. I'm generally never more than a few mins away from one so most of the time I don't use a huge amount of data. I have unlimited through T-Mobile so it makes no difference to me how much I use but typically no more than 100mb often much less. This month so far I've used 12mb.

When I'm away or on long journeys it easy to use more but a 500mb limit would be plenty. The 3gb fair usage policy with T-Mobile before they throttle its speed back is excessive for me for now at least till I find something worthwhile to use it on. I tried tethering it to my computer to supply my mobile internet needs but it was too slow and glitchy so have a standalone dongle that provides sensible speeds.
Juggling Hard Disks over concrete floors ends in tears 5% of the time.

I am on flatrate but have followed my usage out of interest and I seem to settle on 350-600MB/month. Most is consumed by grooveshark and other streaming apps when on the go, besides regular surfing and getting mails. If i ditched music streaming (which I won't) I could do with probably 150-250MB.

I also use the phone for wifi tethering, occasionally: that sucks a lot (100MB gone in a work day for sure, probably more) and should be included in your considerations.

thanks for the figures guys, interesting to see how much (or how little!) people tend to use!

Edit: went for the o2 sim-free deal at 285 up front, keeping my rolling monthly contract :-) should have it next week... Any recommendations for a soft/hard cover, screen protector, etc for a Desire?

i have been on holiday for neary 1 and a half weeks now (in Crete) and have only just realised that i can use the usb tethering on my desire hd to connect to the internet on my laptop (im a slow person......).  omg its quick!! its like having a normal connection :) am just dreading the surcharge, although they say its a fixed rate of 2 quid a day, anyone else used tethering abroad? if so has it cost you much?
