Homefront's gameplay has been completely reworked from its origins in Frontlines: Fuel of War, focusing on a more cinematic, character driven experience.

David Votypka, the design director of Homefront, stated in an interview with G4TV that the gameplay will be based around guerilla style tactics, inspired by Half-Life 2.[11] The same interview also contained information stating that one of the important facts concerning your surroundings is that they are built to try and build a connection with the user by using real companies and brands.[12]
Multiplayer

The multiplayer component of Homefront is focused on large-scale vehicle based combat reminiscent of Kaos' first title, Frontlines: Fuel of War. The defining innovation of Homefront's Multiplayer is its battle points system, which is an in-game currency that allows player to purchase weapons, gear and vehicles. Players earn points by taking objectives and getting kills and are forced to choose between many small purchases such as weapons versus larger, higher cost items like helicopters and tanks. It has been confirmed that the multi-player will support up to 32 players in one match, with 16 players on each team.[13] Homefront on Xbox 360 will be getting a timed exclusive map called "Suburbs", which will be set in the Suburbs of America and will be infantry / drone only.[14]

The Multiplayer takes place in the period before the U.S. Armed Forces were completely scattered.[15]
PC Version

Homefront's PC version has been outsourced to Digital Extremes, a Canadian developer responsible for numerous Unreal Tournament games and Bioshock ports. Frank Delise, the executive producer of the PC version has stated that the PC version of the game will feature exclusive content and dedicated servers. Additional exclusive features include clan support, DirectX 11 graphics, and first person vehicle cockpits.[16][17] It has also been confirmed that Homefront will be released on Steam.[18] Also, spectator mode and demorecording will be included along with a dedicated server executable, server tools and RCON.[3]

I really hope this is better than front-lines : fuel of war as that was really bad for multiplayer!

The single player wasn't up to much either.

Fingers crossed.

This looks very promising.

It's out tomorrow and has LAN support and is an FPS.

Available on steam and has steamworks too.

Anyone temepted to buy it/ test it with me?

It might even be good enough to try at the LAN!

Thanks!

ZoomOver the weekend, THQ, Kaos Studios and Digital Extremes released an update  with details regarding the PC version of Homefront, the upcoming Unreal  Engine 3-powered FPS for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Windows PC and  OnLive. Digital Extremes is handling the PC version.
According to the report, Homefront for the PC will come packed with  Valve's Steamworks even though brick-and-mortar retailers aren't keen on  games with the embedded digital distribution platform. The PC version  will also offer 3D visuals thanks to full Nvidia 3D Vision support as  seen during CES 2011.
"From a gameplay standpoint, we’ve done some additional work on the  vehicles," the update reads. "On PC, you’ll be able to control all  vehicles from the 1st person cockpit viewpoint as well as 3rd person. We  also added additional control options for helicopters, to give those  players looking for more sim-like controls (Ace, Veteran and Rookie)--  something to get their teeth around."
There will also be a Practice Mode so that players can get the hang  of vehicle controls before jumping into live matches. "No need in  wasting your hard earned Battle Points!" the update added. "Lastly, we  added some extra vehicle abilities for co-pilots, such as a Recon  function to the Scout heli, and we obviously support joystick control  for all vehicles."
Homefront for the PC will also feature a squad management system with  squad-based VOIP, clan support, stat tracking, multiplayer match  recording, a dedicated server browser executable for setting up servers  just after the game's launch, SLI/CrossFire compatibility, and support for LAN. Unfortunately, a toolset will not be included at launch.
As for a demo, the possibility is still up in the air for now. "Right  now the teams at Kaos Studios & Digital Extremes are working hard  on finishing the game at the highest level of quality possible," the  update reads. "Of course we’d love to release a public Demo, but this  would detract efforts from the main game. Rest assured, we have  conducted a lengthy private Beta on the PC to help us fine tune the  game, so any Demo would be for promotional purposes only."
Here are the minimum and recommended specs along with the requirements for playing in 3D:

  • Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7
  • Intel Pentium Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz or AMD Athlon X2 2.8 GHz

QuoteHomefront's dedicated servers detailed

Friday 4-Mar-2011 10:38 AM Freedoms and restrictions outlined

Details have emerged on Homefront's dedicated servers, expanding on  what kind of freedom and customisation will actually be available to  players during multiplayer.

Here are a few bullet points outlining how players will be empowered, or not, in some cases (thanks Segment Next):

  • There will be no option to change spawn times or the weapons available to the players.
  • No hardcore mode is included. This is done mainly to preserve the competitive aspect of the game.
  • Servers will be able to run in 'mixed mode', which will alter the game-types of the server automatically.
  • There will be a "Message of the Day" support, and the option to make servers private is also a possibility.
  • Admins will be able to toggle auto-balancing on and off, force a player to spectate, and switch members to a team.
  • The dedicated servers do not required Steam Client to be logged in.
  • The server variables included are:
    • Server Name
    MOTD
Game Mode (easy to have mixed mode)
     GC Score Limit
     TDM Score Limit
     Time Limit
     Internet (off for LAN)
     Vac Secured
     No of Slots
     Game Port
     Query Port
     AdminPassword
     GamePassword
     Friendly Fire
     No Vehicles
     Record Demo

  •  Developers are considering a patch that will allow a Ready-up Timer,  Halftime team-switching/side switching and round numbers selection.

Homefront got a 9/10  from Italy's Official PlayStation Magazine yesterday, which called the  FPS "One of the most intense, emotional experiences of 2011".

Kaos Studios' exciting new first-person shooter is off to a good start  thanks to record pre-order numbers for publisher THQ, with around  200,000 US punters having signed up for battle ahead of the game's March  15 release date making it THQ's most pre-ordered title ever.

Ok for whatever reason it isn't available on steam before release day.

Despite being a steam works game due to territorial limits:

From Steam Support
"Pendragon wrote:

Hello Stephen, Thank you for contacting Steam Support. Homefront is not  available in the UK due to the publisher setting territorial  restrictions on the game. If you have any further questions, please let  us know - we will be happy to assist you. "

From Kaos Chefs
"Confirmed: All legitimate copies (physical/digital) of Homefront  purchased for PC will function within the Steamworks/Valve environment. "

So they know it's not available on steam in the UK, which is very very odd for a "steam works" title!!
However we can get it via amazon or any other retailer and then add the cd-key to steam or if u;d prefer to do steam direct.

Try this link which you get metro 2033 with it for free via steam store USA:

Saw some ads on telly last night on this too. I like the idea of a game that we can support and run our own servers on.

I'll give this a go just in case. Count me in!

i'll give it a try. :)

It's had some extremely mixed reviews for the Xbox/PS3, but the most common gripes seem to concern the single-player campaign.

If there was a demo I'd be up for trying it out for a few nights, but I'm not coughing up £30 for a 5 hour SP campaign and the hope that the MP is up to scratch.

Yep, because although the SP campaign was a bit iffy the multi-player was based on a tried and tested COD4 formula. Homefront is a total unknown for me.

Crytek managed to release an MP demo for Crysis 2, why can't Kaos Studios do the same?

Reviews are more than a bit mixed. There is a detailed analysis of the multi-player at GameSpot, which interestingly sports a "Battle commander" mode (unlike the coming BF3).

I am just uncertain that, with the mixed reviews and lack of demo, this game has too many flaws to make a classic team FPS.
