We've learnt from experience that the best policy is to put up as few barriers to joining a game as possible. So BF3 will probably be vanilla and out of the box. Otherwise things get very fragmented. In the end it's up to the community and whoever is the Game Leader but I'd be surprised if we all had to buy extras to get onto a dMw server.

BF3 Blog has published a response from DICE with regard to pre-order DLC
QuoteQ: Is the Physical Warfare Pack available in all regions, or just in the UK?
A: It will be available worldwide at select retailers. It was first announced in the UK. Exact details for other countries and retailers will be announced at a later date.

Q: Will Physical Warfare Pack imbalance the game?
A: The three exclusive items in the Physical Warfare Pack were specifically chosen not to be overpowered or imbalance or break the game in any way.

Q: Why do I want the Physical Warfare Pack?
A: Owning these items will give you a more varied arsenal, but it will not give you a significant advantage on the battlefield.

I'm more concerned about the extra map.

What happens if you're playing on a server, and the 'bonus' map is next in the rotation but you haven't bought it - do you get booted out? It's a crap idea.

It is, which is why I hope we stick with whatever comes in the bog standard retail/Steam version.

BF3 PreOrder- Check
Physical Warefare Package - Check
Strike at Karkand - Check

I want to play the whole game and will buy any other DLC maps that become available. I will get more than my moneys worth through gameplay.
Not being funny but if dMw do not support the map then I will play BF3on a different server. Like I said not being funny, just honest.

Where have people pre-orderd the game from i'm not sure wheres best (cheapest) to get the game with the extra DLC

Pre-ordered 2 copies of this a while ago (with the extra maps) not worried about the Warfare Pack, that shottie not going to make any difference on a large 64 player map with jets, heli's, tanks, snipers and TwoBad with his C4 :roflmao:

No problem the choice is yours, and I'm in no position to say what dMw will do with BF3. maybe the DLC will be so fantastic we can't not have it on the server?

The problem isn't about what we'd like to do but more about making sure everyone in the community can play the game. We've seen games fall apart because some people have the basic game and some people have this DLC or that DLC. In the end we have a whole mix of people with different versions of the game and whatever we offer isn't right for half the players and so we end up pleasing no one and upsetting everyone. What does work is to offer a server that everyone with the game can play. If you buy all the DLC you should still be able to play on the dMw vanilla server, if you buy some of the DLC you should still be able to play on the dMw server and if you buy none of the DLC you should also still be able to play on the dMw server. The trick is to cater for the widest group of players. If some players have more stuff and are able to go play on servers that host it then great. But what's not so great is for us to have to tell someone they need to go buy more stuff if they want to join us here.

I'll admit I'm tempted to buy the lot as well :)

I'm going to buy the game with DLC Purely for strike at karkand as it was my favourite map of bf2.

But i think it's best served to have a bf3 server without the DLC (At first)

& Depending how many clan members get the DLC hold a night of playing DLC Maps 1 day a week with a rotation (like dMw. Vs. the world on bc2 server) somthing like that would be better at first i think and then you can guage how much interest there is for the DLC (for example how many servers are dedicated to playing the normal maps plus DLC ones and play it by ear)

I will be annoyed and suprised if there isnt alot of multiplayer servers playing the DLC Maps becuase the link Naldo gave me its only £30 for the maps which is what the game would of cost anyway (or there abouts)

I'm Hoping the DLC Maps dont fall flat on its face and nobody takes them up on multiplayer servers.

Just to make the point again. I don't make policy about what we do and do not host on the servers. Ultimately the people who play there do. If a certain map becomes the standard for the game and everyone has it then I'm sure we'll host it. If Strike at Karkand is a must buy for everyone, and it seems like it might be, then I'm sure dMw will oblige and host it.

It boggles my mind that people want to pay extra money for an existing map from an old game.

Crazy.

Nostalgia isn't what it used to be!

The "Karkand" Map Pack will be free for everyone that pre-ordered the game (basically everyone here) and will be purchaseable from day one for people who didn't pre-order.

Pre-order just saves you $9.99 (or whatever).

I cannot imagine any fan of the Battlefield Franchise not pre-ordering this one. My brother is even building a gaming PC just to play it (now that's commitment!)

The "Physical Warefare Package" is a carrot to get PC gamers down to the high street. It won't nerf the game.

I strongly suspect that the "tons of DLC" EA mentioned applies more to the console players than to the PC community. Look at the BFBC2 map packs. Console gamers had to buy them, while we got 'em for free!

T-Bag

Yeah, the fuss is about the guns. The maps are a thank you to people who pre-order...you get them for free whereas they will be (or are at least planned to be) available to purchase on launch  (prepare for a u-turn nearer the launch and them being made free).

DLC is a touchy subject for PC gamers and is rarely done well (with valve being the most notable exception). Money should be paid for kit that doesn't really change the game, skins for weapons, unlocking weapons earlier and extended single player segments. An online community should be on level footing, so only some having DLC with distort that and shouldn't be done.
Juggling Hard Disks over concrete floors ends in tears 5% of the time.

FrEnZy

Got to say I think the map pack is going to be the bigger issue for us.

I'd quite like to play Karkand again, but if half of us don't have it then we can't really have it in the rotation.
