BF3 Blog is carrying the story that a link to the new MOH game had a "buy and get Battlefield 4 BETA access" tag line. This has since been withdrawn from Origin.

Unless they call it "Battlefield 4: PC ONLY, LAN SUPPORTING UPGRADE OF BATTLEFIELD 2" then I don't think I'm interested...

I suspect it will be titled "BattleRoom 4: Console dumbed-down cash-cow twitch-bang #bleep# edition"..

I came into this world with nothing,
through careful management I\'ve got most of it left.

Yep. The new game will drop all players in freefall into an 8m square low texture "battleroom" where you have guns that fire expletives at the the other players. Actual bullets are paid DLC. There are no maps or vehicles because that's dangerously close to modding and therefore illegal for our own good. A wide variety of camo pyjamas and hats will be available each month along with a patch to break the stuff that was fixed last month.

Wait, what?

EA can do one, it took them a year to get BF3 up to scratch. Shameless milking of a once great franchise :(

QFT.

How long did games of yester-year last?   Way longer than the shelf life for some of the current "we reckon we can charge you again for the same game in 6 months and it still won't be working properly" games.

The gap between BF2 and BF3 was too long. This takes it to the other extreme. I didn't like CoD doing it, I didn't like valve doing it, and I don't like BF doing it. This is why the F2P model will take over before too long. People will get sick and tired of paying for the same game every year (and, if you don't you'll be left on empty servers), on the other hand if you looks at a game like Team Fortress 2, released 5 years ago. Still gets updates, and is still earning the company money without deliberately breaking the game each year.

The progress on http://www.teamfortress.com/119/ puts CoD, BF and MoH to shame. That's before it went free to play...it's had plenty more since then, even last month there was a new map added. I really should start playing this game again...

TF is a good example of what games can be like with developement before EA try and make more money off the muggins why not fix BF3 first? surely that will temp customers into buying BF4 etc...At the moment I don't hold EA in high regard for gaming - Didnt before BF3 but now I just think there useless.

Sadly shenanigans like this will carry on as long as people are willing to pay. Hopefully as a community gamers will group round a version and that will become the online standard. Then companies like EA will have to rethink their business plan.

Whatever's gone wrong it's not my fault.

I can see this happening, but the first thing like a lot of you have said is its just becoming a call of duty type, where they re-re-re-re-release the same game year on year, I hope they don't but ehh what can you do, I know doubt will be suckered into buying it :)

Quote from: DICEIt’s a great showcase of a lot of different aspects of the game. Lots of  people say ‘oh, my favourite thing about Battlefield is this’, and  depending on the personality of the consumer, they want to see different  things.

No, I disagree. People's favourite things about BattleField were the features of BattleField, not Call of Duty, so claiming people all want something different is basically claiming you hear them, but choose to ignore them and are making Modern Warfare 4 anyway.

Quote from: About the campaignOne of the things we’re most happy with is that people actually pick up  on the characters. They remember their names. How often do you do that  in a game, really? People talk to me about the characters, for a game  like Battlefield, you could argue that it’s just a shooter, so who  cares. For us it’s important to grow up a bit and create a great story, a  character you care about, where you feel involved in their actions and  that’s based on the core idea of the whole game, that we want to move  elements of multiplayer into singleplayer.

Like a fish's bicycle single-player is, at best, superfluous to BattleField. Care about the characters? I care more that they wasted huge amounts of time and money creating what amounts to a graphics demo, rather than working on a BattleField multiplayer title worthy of the franchise. Scripted single player, characterisation, "Bond like" openings; are any of these things anything anybody has ever associated with BattleField? No.
