You Have The Power to Influence the Games Played / Game Competitions!!

BrotherTobious and I are always looking to enhance your LAN and the games that we organise for competitions / cooperative play.

We'd like to compile a list of your ideas for new games that we can play during the weekend of the LAN.

Outside of some simple guidelines, the door is open to your suggestions. We will let this thread have a life of it's own. At the end of July, we'll close this thread and compile your ideas and put them up to a vote.

Some Simple Guidelines:

  • Game must be readily available
  • Preference on affordability (£15 max)
  • Preference on LAN support (due to limited internet connection at the hotel

A free and excessively fun little game is Soldat. It's a side-view. You control an itty bitty soldier with some heavy firepower, and it's a free-for-all firefight.

Hmm not sure if ARMA III will count, as it is still only a beta, but a few of us have some great fun with this one.

Red Orchestra 2 is also crackin' good fun, and the new expansion is really top notch and only 15 quid.

L4D2, now I know we play this already, but would it be an idea to have a list of workshop maps to download before the lan, so everyone has them in advance? There is some really great content on there :)

For anyone that likes to play strategy games (think C&C etc), I personally would LOVE to play a few games of things like Company of Heroes, Sins of a Solar Empire, and so on. Sins is my personal fave strategy game out there, it will kill hours and hours of your life if you let it suck you in.

There we go just a few ideas :)

A couple of suggestions....

Rising Storm - £15. I believe it supports a dedicated LAN server, fantastic team-based shooter.
DOTA 2 - £6.99, but we have quite a few free invites we can give away (I have about 15 alone).
How about some racing... F1 2012 supports LAN gaming, can be found for as cheap as £6 on Amazon.
Some sort of FIFA knockout competition? Could stick it up on the projector for a bit of atmosphere :)

I'm sure there are others that I haven't thought of. Where's Lib when you need him? He literally has all the games.

I haven't tried it, but the one that Elly mentioned, The Hidden looks like it could be a laugh.

And CS:GO obviously.

Thanks Toby and Ninja for putting this up.

Need for Speed Split Second- LAN capability has been at a few lans already
Wolfenstein enemy territory- bit of an old one but we never actually gave this a go
Day of Defeat Source
Sniper Elite V2 or Sniper Elite Zombie
Counterstrike 1.6- reunion match
dead island apparently has lan capability

Gortex

Am a big fan and would work well. Team Fortress 2
I like Tuts idea of a FIFA comp on the big screen as long as I don't partner Mr Tobious who quite frankly wont end up with 11 men on the pitch.
Killing Floor is basic zombie shooter but works very well in team play. 75% off on steam this month.
Some Unreal Tournament would be cool.. Instant gib or normal don't mind.
Perhaps some RTS like Age of empires, Company of Heroes, Dawn or War 2 or even some Total War.
Lastly for kicks and giggles Magicka after a few beers is guaranteed to have you laughing, Perhaps a comp of how far can a team of 4 go in 15 mins.

these are some really good suggestions people! keep 'em coming!

I like the idea of FIFA I have a copy and controllers to so if there is enough interest and not enough time we could run it on 2 machines

Obviously I would like to see rising storm but we may not get enough interest, not only that I can't even work out myself how a round is won, it has a rather bizarre scoring system.

battlefield 2....used to be awesome at lan events, doesn't nearly everybody have it as well

I came into this world with nothing,
through careful management I\'ve got most of it left.

Unfortunately, its an absolute pain in to get working with a modern OS/GPU.

Gortex has some good ones, TF2 would be good, and some of those RTS.

And Unreal Tournament would be great :)

Final patch of BF2 should run fine with modern crapola. I played it just the other day. Ran it at 1920*1080.

I was utter crap at it though. Modern BF has ruined what skills I had :p

BF2 we tried and it really didnt work very well or in most cases at all :( but keep those ideas coming. :)
