I think this will be quite popular, there will be a lot of interest from Assetto racers outside our community I feel.  Especially when they see the web site stats etc.

I think about quali start at 8pm GMT (9pm CET); I'm going to make a post on the Assetto Forums about this as well. Does anyone know, if there is something like an event calender for AC (I did not see something like that yet)? Otherwise I'll just post on the Chit-Chat forum.

I think we're going to use a password during the race. Not quite sure if we should use the LFS password, or set up a new password for every race as it is done on the DM server atm?

I wouldn't be able to make anything on a Tuesday, so Wednesday gets my vote......but what's wrong with our existing Monday night, as that would be even better for me, unless that needs to be kept for the multiple short races.

RUF Yellowbird, a tricky beast that requires a specific driving style to get the best out of.... one thats probably needed for all 911.

I dug out my old video for the car round the Nordshleife, but the quality was rubbish.

I found this decent quality version. Well worth a look.....utterly bonkers.

I'd like to participate whenever I can find time, but isn't it a bit early with AC?
I like this RUF crazy car, smoothness required! Don't forget to play with the magic turbo keys...

Longer races are worth a try anyways. As I do not think I could attend regularly, I'll adapt to whatever schedule you come up with!

I suppose the video is about a fast lap. There are later magazine review videos (c early '90s?) where he drives bit more in drifting style. There is also a magazine article about that (can post it somewhere if interest).

The car in the video drives totally different from what I experience. No sign of understeer in it. The driver is constantly making slight adjustments to to keep the rear in order (I suppose). Turning in corners doesn't require much steering. Pretty much what is said about 911 in general.

What "magic turbo keys"? Maybe that's why I can get it power slide only when high revs in the 2nd gear.

I can sort of understand your comments Aquilifer, as from a constant cornering point of view, the front will give out first, probably as there is little weight over the front. But i often spin out, as under braking with the front loaded up, it can easily generate enough grip to over rotate the car. Once that heavy rear end start to go round its often impossible to stop.

That isn't to say a lot fun, and especially in the slower corners can be great catchable fun.

Those magic turbo keys are the number keys 1 to 0 = 10% thought to 100% turbo boost. I cant remember what the default is, but 60 or 70% I think, so pressing 0 will get you a useful increase in performance,,,, and even longer breaking zones, lol.

Round Oschersleben, the key to quick times seems to be traction, so get those gears sorted, and a delicate right foot.

I didn't want to hijack Seany's Monday events :)  Thanks for the video, very interesting (he was doing that in blue jeans and without a helmet, brave man). Sometimes I get the RUF to handle similar, but it is quite difficult for me. I hope your time on the server is your PB :D.

Magic turbo keys = "1" to "0" (not the number pad keys, but the other ones). Press 0 for 100% turbo; this is the correct setting for this car. Cars supporting it this are Lotus 98T, BMW 1M S3 and the RUF (did I forget one?).

So this combo is quite demanding on my concentration and my physics :)

It was decided today, that we try out the long races using the RUF @ Oschersleben on Wednesday. It will probably be just a few of us, because it is not yet advertised in piblic; but I need some private practicing first :) So if anyone of you feel like singing with this yellow bird, here are the details:

Date & Time: Wednesday, 7th Jan, 8pm GMT, 9pm ECT (I'll be there some time before)
Server: DMr Dead Men / Dominant Monkeys
Password: BIRDSONG

QUALIFY
Duration: 15 Minutes
Fuel Rate: 1x

(3 minutes pause)

SPRINT RACE
Number of Sprint Race Laps: 5
Fuel Rate: 1x

(10 minutes pause)

LONG RACE
Number of Long Race Laps: 27
Fuel Rate: 1.5x (-> 1 pit stop required)

Teamspeak: Dead Men Racing Teamspeak Server.

The server will be password protected and stay in pickup mode. Between SPRINT RACE and LONG RACE a server restart will be necessary. But there is a long pause phase between the two races, so the reconnect shall not be a problem. All in all I estimate that the event will last about 1.5 hours. The apps are just a recommendation and not required to take part.

The blueflag app shows a blue flag if you are about to be lapped. ptracker is explained here http://www.deadmen.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?40071-ptracker-AIRIO-like-app-for-Assetto-Corsa. You should unpack them in your Assetto Corsa folder (so that the app/ folder of the zip files match the app/ folder in your assetto corsa folder). For me, the Assetto Corsa folder is
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\assettocorsa
. Afterwards you need to enable them in the launcher (Options->General->UI modules) and show them in-game via the sidebar (when moving the mouse to the right).

As stated above, the apps are not really necessary but may enhance the experience a bit.

So I think the long race worked out quite nicely tonight. I enjoyed it, was a long time since my last long race in LFS. Only thing we need now are more racers :D

I added a point scheme for these events and put this together here: http://77.108.135.2:42223/championship . One problem left is that DNF players get points atm (this is a bug in stracker I'm going to fix when I find some time).

Long Race points: 25-21-17-14-12-10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 for positions 1 to 15
Sprint Race points: 12-10-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 for positions 1 to 10
Qualy points: 1 point for the pole :)

Combo choice by Spikey MarcoD this week.  I have set it to 3 laps for the race.  If you guys feel it should be longer that's cool.  Not sure what actual lap times will be, I'm guessing around 4 minutes?  Qual is still ten minutes, which will give enough time to do an out lap and 1 Qual lap. I think this is ok, as it's more about the racing than qualifying (for me Qual is just kind of warm up/practise :) ).  But we can change that too, if you guys like / if it's too short.

Good racing in the Ruf, love that beast!
