might pop on for a bit

I came into this world with nothing,
through careful management I\'ve got most of it left.

Introducing the water lift, who needs ladders anyway..

Please be considerate and don't do digging, smashing, placements of any kind near the invisible contraption; just walk into the water, and press space to swim up.  Second floor exterior is a guard post area, third exterior floor is a work in progress plantation.  Took me two days to get it right, it breaks easily, and will end up with the base flooding.

You'll notice that the makeshift box we used to call a base has been upgraded.  Bunks go in the second interior floor.  Put them up a wall like mine is.  The higher the better, so you re-spawn in the terrace/guard post.  Don't put anything in the mini-room downstairs; that is an ongoing project.

Use of buckets is banned near the compound.  They make a mess of things.

Server might require a restart; cooking/forging bugged out.

lpha 10 Apocalypse is just out.

This means that the server needs the update, and it's a fresh start, as A9.3 is not compatible with A10.  The game is seriously harder now, with zombies being more intelligent and tougher.

In addition, making too much noise, heat, smell has consequences, hordes will come knocking.

QuoteSpider Zombies and You: A Survivor's Guide to Heat Generation

Alright, so everyone is wondering how heat is generated, and I have done a little quick and dirty testing to see exactly what occurs. This is everything that came to mind while testing, done on Nomad settings, everything default except 60 minute days, and creative mode activated. I activated the debug menu through the console, pressed F8 until the percentage meters appeared, and simply watched times and percentages and recorded them.

So, on to the (somewhat) scientific results!

Forges only create heat when using a new fuel piece - 2% generated per fuel piece used
The same occurs with campfires, only when a fuel piece is used is heat generated, in the same amount as a forge.

As far as I can tell, cooking and smelting do not cause any extra heat to be generated, only the amount of fuel being used. This points out that coal ore is the best fuel to use as it burns the longest and will not be used as often as other fuel sources. Sticks will call spiders like crazy.

Tools - pick ax - striking rock and ores gives 0.1% per strike
fire ax - striking wood gives 0.1% per strike, nothing when a tree falls or hitting anything else but stone
hoe - 0%, any use other than hitting stone. hitting stone gives 0.1%
augur - 0.03%, only when first used, if used continuously heat doesn't build up
chainsaw - same as augur
shovel - when hitting dirt, clay or sand, no heat is generated, hitting rock gives 0.1%

Every tool generates 0.1% heat when striking stone, tools create no heat when striking dirt, clay or sand. The chainsaw and augur generate 0.03% heat when first activated, as long as the trigger is held down no additional heat is generated. No heat is generated when a tree falls.

Gore - approximately every 5 minutes (game time, 60 minute days), 5% heat is generated, destroying gore gives 0% heat

From what I can tell here, each gore pile generates 5% heat every 5 minutes game time at 60 minute days. The more gore piles, the faster the heat is generated.

Guns - pistol - gives 0.3% heat each shot
shotgun - gives 0.3% heat each shot
sawn-off shotgun - gives 0.3% heat each shot
hunting rifle - gives 0.3% heat each shot
sniper rifle - gives 0.3% heat each shot
smg - gives 0.3% heat for initial shot, none for subsequent shots as long as the trigger is held down
44 magnum - gives 0.3% heat each shot

Every gun generates 0.3% heat per shot. The rocket launcher is an exception, and is in the next section. The SMG generates 0.3% heat with the first shot, then no addition heat as long as the trigger is held down. You can empty the magazine and only generate 0.3% heat total.

Explosives - rocket launcher - gives 0.3% heat each shot, explosion gives 5% heat
TNT - 5% heat per detonation
pipe bomb - 5% heat per detonation
hubcap mine - 5% heat per detonation
candy tin mine - 5% heat per detonation
landmine - 5% heat per detonation

Every explosive generates 5% heat, except the rocket launcher which generates 5.3% heat. 5% for the explosion, and 0.3% for the shot.

So ends my preliminary test results. This was done with as many variables removed as possible, and as close to default settings as I could manage. Hopefully this is a little helpful, and helps explain this mechanic a little more in depth.

Anyone want to go halves on a 2 pack? Being a newish member here I don't mind buying it and then gifting before you pay me for it.

Gorion

Even cheaper elsewhere.

Humble Bundle Single â,¬10,49

G2A Single â,¬9.94

G2A 2Pack â,¬15.90

Never had any problems with G2A, I rarely buy anything directly from steam anymore as prices are inflated..

That's for a Russian key and Steam have now region locked their games now.

Gorion

With the G2A shield thing, it works or money back.

It's listed as Global key, so it shouldn't be.

HumbleBundle is still cheaper anyhow, and that's surely not locked.

Yes you are right, the humble bundle is only 50p more than half the cost of a 2 pack so I went with that. Thanks for the heads up.

Are you guys playing on any particular server?

The G2A 2 pack page, if you click on the arrow by the price, it is definitely a russian flag shown. Although now there also seems to be a Austrian flag option for a little more which should work. I used to use G2A a lot but now with the Steam region locking I am little more wary.
