Battlefield 1 released 2016. I think if BF1 had been better people may have been ok BF5 being ww2. But yeah this feels like BF1.5 with all the fixes people wanted or didn't like about BF1 but we've had 2 years of that already!

Because BF1 was **** I myself was hoping for a return to modern day as I much preferred BF3 & 4 to both BF1 & 5.

And I'll be very happy when they remove the battlefront HUD.

Ah that's interesting, that it was in fact 2 years ago. I was working under the assumption it was still a yearly fiasco.

I suppose the rest of my post is still applicable, though. What's hard to know is exactly why they decided to stick to the world wars for BFV, and exactly what it is that is hurting preorders so much. It may be overlooking things to say people didn't like BF1, as we (enthusiast gamers) are often a very vocal minority. I wonder if 'our' opinions of BF1 actually reflect the overall 'sales reality', if that makes sense.

It'll be interesting to see how the game performs. If the enthusiasts are all saying what you are Mike (i.e. BF 1.5), and the 'non-enthusiasts' (who easily make up the silent majority in gaming - I think Jay would call these 'casuals' :roflmao:) aren't interested for one reason or another, the game could really flop.

Just like I haven't pre-ordered so far, I certainly still won't be (no matter how I find the beta). I'll be trying the beta if I can get a chance, though, and will just keep an eye on how it all plays out from there.

Exactly, there's plenty of wars to work with if they don't want to do a modern warfare type thing

TheDvEight

I'm really disappointed as I'm a huge fan of the battlefield series they should of done a more modern shooter

Battlefield 1 was a big disappointment for me (still played 471 hours though) and is also the reason why I did not pre-order battlefield V.
I do like the WW2 setting, but a modern shooter would have been welcome too. BF4 is still the best battlefield IMHO.
I have mixed feelings with this beta and I will play it a bit more. But most likely I will not pre order it. I might buy it if a lot of my friends buy the game. Because that is what it is all about for me. Playing with friends.

I didn't play Battlefield 1 at first, I only got into that a couple of weeks ago when I signed up for Origin Access in preparation for Battlefield V.
I like the beta so far. Took a little while to get used to the gameplay after PUBG for too long, but it seems that the game itself is fairly optimized (no issues running it on my aging gaming rig), I like the gameplay, and if enough of you lot are going for it I can see myself spending many a Battlefield Friday (remember those?) playing this game.
As this is only a beta of Conquest and Grand Operations mode, it's going to be fun to see what other modes they throw in.
Oh, and there's always the campaign.

Played some more this evening and I have to say it's a massive improvement on BF1 with the gameplay mechanics (although the new squad attrition system is useless with randoms (never have ammo)), but it's still not a patch on BF3 & 4.

For me, personally, they've not moved far enough away from BF1 for me to warrant getting this, I know i'll just drop it after a few weeks.

Looks like i'm waiting for World War 3.

I spent all of 9 minutes on this then uninstalled, I have no idea how that gameplay is supposed to be fun, it's so weirdly fast paced, and I'm not sure if it's the game camera or what, but it feels disjointed to me, I played a ton of BF4 and BF3 I don't remember them being like this at all...

German shock troop running through some town and it was just this mushy grey mess, the enemy in a tank literally steamrolled everyone, so silly...

TheDvEight

I thought it was slow paced and struggled to find people, found it boring.

Not sure what game mode you were playing in to find it slow paced... its nuts.

After a few rounds, I am fairly positive. I'll say again that I didn't touch BF1 for even a minute, so I am coming in fresh from that point of view...

It is fast-paced frantic action that shoots well, looks gorgeous (even on my mid-range laptop)... overall, quite fun. Plenty of bugs in this Beta, but still quite playable.

I find myself in the mood for a more 'casual' FPS right now, and these few rounds ticked the right boxes for me. I'll definitely be keeping an open mind, and may well pick up the game at, or soon after release.

Apparently you're playing this one :D

Seems a few have the same criticism, that it feels slow paced. I think some are finding gaps between the combat to be forced and artificial due to the ammo and health restrictions. Having to run off to resupply, for example. This is largely an issue of playing solo. Play in a squad, bring a support or two, and the problem is surely solved, no? I am looking forward to some actual squad gameplay with other dMw, and perhaps this will fix the pacing issues for those who are running into them.

On the other side of that coin, though, I don't think the same can be said for the actual combat. It certainly retains the pace of the previous games :D.

I dunno, my heart says this boat has sailed for me, never got engaged to 3 or 4 and didn't entertain the idea of the interim releases. But... I said I wouldn't buy Monster Hunter and did and serious love playing it. I just don't know if I need another FPS.
Cheers, Bert

I can get that mate. There are very mixed feelings towards this one in dMw, and we're probably not the only gaming community having these discussions.

For me, I am currently in this frame of mind -

- I am looking for a more casual FPS to complement Overwatch (which really I can only play as a competitive game).
- That casual game needs to be something I can jump into for a few hours once or twice a week to unwind. The gunplay is probably the most important factor here, along with a group of mates to play it with!
- I didn't play BF1, and haven't played a WW1-2 shooter since the 'good old days' of the early Call of Duties.
- Enough time has passed that I feel willing to take a plunge at a Battlefield again, even if I have felt burnt by EA before.

I've been really enjoying the beta, and find myself wanting to keep going. Because of that, I am probably going to end up getting this one.

(Feel free to berate me for giving in to the horror that is EA as a developer, despite spouting plenty of anti-EA rhetoric in the past! Shameful, I know!)
