I was devasted to see Sanza the way she was at the end of the episode. I really didnt enjoy that scene and i dont think im enjoying the whole Winterfell stuff going on right now. Got to a point where i just want that to be over and done with.

Quote from: TeaLeaf;399317and often being 'out there' for no valid reason.   For example, the Theon scene at the end of this week's episode:  seriously?  Off book, off piste and for what?

Agreed SxtyFour, that was precisely the bit I was trying to refer to.   It added nothing to the story line that we didn't already know.   Did anyone not realise that Theon was a bit of a sick bloke?

They did it in an earlier series too with the rape of Cersei, which was perverse because in the books it was actually a lovers scene and the director's TV change added nothing to the story and actually made elements of the Cersei/Jamie story line less believable.
To have Sanza raped has ruined it. For 5 seasons shes avoided this and for it all to go down like it did was horrific.
I've added spoiler tags to that last comment. Some of us haven't seen the episode yet.

What is it with the GoT writers and rape scenes?

Entirely unnecessary.

Apologies Oldie (and anyone else who read it inadvertently), I brought the issue up and whilst I described it generically, I had not noted that the ongoing conversation had gone into specifics.  My bad.

I haven't seen it yet but also saw the spoiler on Huffington Post.

Anyway, I think it actually pretty awful this season and can hardly bring myself to watch it. In fact I've just cancelled our Sky subscription as we never really watch the sky content or movies.

We're going to use Freesat and Netflix/Amazon Prime for content going forward.

It's just about OK so long as no one else is stealing the internetz at the same time.

The deviation between books and TV have RRs blessing, as was mentioned in this thread previously.
I think the problem going around isn't the deviation per se, but how the last episode ended, which is in my opinion setting up the next episode for some Theon & Sansa revenge on ramsay.  RR said that every character is fair game, so cringing if Sansa gets some rough sex after marrying the guy competing with Joffrey for cruelty and bashing the show for it isn't fair.  She's playing the thrones game, you lose, you gain, and its exactly the game shes playing right now.  She knew what she was getting into before agreeing to marry the asswipe.

And lets face it, the show era doesn't have the moral standards of nowadays, and the setting is based in a husband is the king of the household.  Thus calling the scene "rape" is off base, as it is not.  Remember she was undressing, she was his wife, and she was in their bed chambers performing the bedding rite.  Sure, he could have been gentler, but considering the character, what did you expect? Romanticism and rose baths?
can someone explain how the spoiler tags work exactly?  I tried the hook thing, it still displayed text.

The deviation doesnt really bother me as not read all the books, but really there must be more coming this season!

Overall there seems to be a lot less coming compared to earlier series.

Chaosphere

Tyrion's arc is now the only one I am even remotely interested in. Agree that the ending of episode 6 was, at best, unnecessary. Going for shock value I guess :/

Yep. Was it supposed to demonstrate what a monster he is?

We already knew that....

Just to point out that the first couple of sentences of each post are visible in the Recent Posts panel on the main forum page. Even relatively vague comments about GoT being very poor or good or this character being neglected etc are viewable by everyone visiting the forum not just people who choose to read this thread. The use of spoiler tags is much appreciated but, and while in danger of being a little pedantic, some of us would rather know nothing about the series until we view it for ourselves (whenever that may be :crying: ) Maybe sing a few lines of a song before you post serious comment...... or maybe quote Shakespeare....

Now is the winter of our discontent, made glorious summer by this son of York. And all the clouds that lowered upon our house....."
