Valve game means it goes onto Steam anyway right? so it's just a saving of £15, with no drawn back except the delivery might be late i guess.

I ordered Half life 2 (bronze pack as it was then called) from amazon and foolishly installed the game from the cd, which meant the game needed the cd each time i wanted to play it. Hopefully by now we will be able to enter the cd key and simply download the content straight from steam. Shame i won't be part of the demo but valve seem to be getting greedy. Remember chaps that for this one game we are forking out the whole price of the orange box if bought via steam.

That was fixed with a patch from Steam but it was incredibly annoying at the time :(

Prey was a game you could register with Steam if you bought it on disk, just type in your code and it's registered to you account, no cd checks etc. Thats and non-steam game. I assume they'll have got their act togther by now.

Well.. yeah. But bear in mind that this game is brand new, whereas the Orange Box has been out for a while now. It was somewhat more costly when it first arrived on the scene.

I definitely wouldn't say they are greedy, they were just very generous with the Orange Box, whereas for Left 4 Dead it's the same as any other PC game (let alone console game prices).

Farcry 2 and Fallout 3 were both $50 + Tax, so because the exchange rate has gone to hell winds up being a rough deal for us. £38 which is more than it costs in the shops.
So they're definately making more than they should out of us. The prices were a little higher for us anyway without the exchange rate, but now they despairately need adjusting.

That's not good, it is a bit excessive , it's best to not get it straight from Valve I guess.

I did because I love having the games on Steam, but I'm not happy that I could get a taxi into town and back, buy the game and still have saved money...that's not what the internet is about.

Quote from: Dr Sadako;250119I had a read on the Steam forum about this and apparantly you can cancel you pre-order and get a complete refund. However, you need to go through the Steam support page and create a profile etc. I am currently trying this route just to check if it actually works. I will keep you posted.

I just got a confirmation from steam that I have received a refund for L4D. :narnar:

Do you still have access to the demo?

I don't know as I just reinstalled windows, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Whenever i've bought Valve games they automatically get added to Steam anyway. Yeah, that is a bit disappointing though.

If you think Valve are bad try ordering from Adobe :ranting2:

I needed to update from Acrobat 8 to Acrobat 9.

On the US site it is $99

On the UK site it is £104

It gets better though :(

I cannot order from the US site as it only accepts addresses in US, Canada and Mexico. So I order from UK site and select an electronic download instead of getting a boxed DVD shipped to me. Guess what? The download version is an extra £3!!!!!!! like ***!!!!

So that's £104 to ship a boxed CD or £107 to download some electrons :ranting2:
