Been looking around quickly for what prices they are going for.

Ebuyer want Ã,£80.00 for pro but they are out of stock already.

Currys and pc world want Ã,£89.99 but don't state whether they are upgrade oem or retail copies only play are acually stating retail in their description.

Direct from microsoft pro is Ã,£89 but only an upgrade version is available and i doubt you will get a free physical disk. It will probably be electronic and personally i prefer to have a physical disk and cd key foil

Comet want Ã,£99 and spoke to a live customer service agent who said:

"Sophie: It will be a complete version not upgrade"

Windows 7 * 'E', means that it's the European version and so can't have Internet Explorer as part of the base install.

It also means that they aren't upgrades because it would inherently mean that your previous IE version would be transfered to the new install and so would be illegal under the anti-trust ruling.

So the versions available are fresh installs for the moment.

Still only Ã,£89.97 on Amazon.

Yup all versions are full versions. My bro picked up a copy of ebuyer before they sold out. I'm holding out till nearer the time. Maybe get a student discount or another free copy.

Any version you get in the UK should be a full version. Due to the antitrust ruling regarding IE and such MS are not releasing an upgrade version in the EU at all. Instead, we get the full retail version for the price they would have released the upgrade at. Woo! As to OEM, does it really matter compared to retail? OEM = valid physical disk + foil with key on. Full retail = OEM with a diff word on the box and a manual. Whoop de doo. You'd also know when you tried to buy it. If you were buying from a reputable site they wouldn't be allowed to legally sell you an OEM version if you weren't buying anything else with it.

I read somewhere today (sorry, can't remember where) that the retail contains both the 32 and 64 bit versions - only one can be registered of course.

Interesting, so you could effectively swap over or whatever you choose is what you have to always stick with?

Any idea of the source out of interest.

Correct, had trouble finding someone who sold W7, M$ site was 'unavailable', ebuyer sold out, and eventually ordered from play.com, ordered 3 copies (for family) which was a mixture of 32bit and 64bit, rang Play.com and said you need register which version you want with M$ (32bit or 64bit), but not sure if that means it comes with 2 disks or early on in the installation :g:

Microsoft Store webpage goes down, promotional pricing no longer available

The pre-order discount deal on Windows 7 has sold out less than two days after it began.
According to Sitepoint, most of Microsoftââ,¬â,,¢s retail partners exhausted stocks within the first eight hours of trading, while Amazon has already exceeded the amount of Vista copies that it sold during its entire 17 week pre-order sales period.
Many visitors to the Microsoft online store were greeted with a multilingual message that said: ââ,¬Å"Due to the eagerly anticipated Windows 7 pre-order offer we're experiencing a higher level of demand on our website than usual. This means you can't access the site right now and we're sorry about that.ââ,¬Â
A visit to the Microsoft store today will show the message that the promotional pricing is no longer available.
Although Microsoft has yet to comment on the pre-order sales directly, it told Silicon.com that it was ââ,¬Å"excited with the great response from US and international consumers for the Windows 7 pre-order discount program.ââ,¬Â

As I understand it, you get both 32 and 64bit editions of Windows 7 on the same DVD - when you boot from the disc it should ask you which edition you want to install.

You can't 'swap' between 64 and 32 bit, you'll have to re-install the entire OS if you want to change.
